Testosterone is the hormone responsible for development of masculine physical characteristics. There can be many reasons that testosterone levels are low. There can be a direct problem with the testicle resulting from genetic problems, injury, or cancer. More commonly, testosterone levels are low because of normal aging, obesity (at any age), or medications. Symptoms of low testosterone include erectile dysfunction, infertility, decreased beard and body hair growth, decrease in muscle mass, development of breast tissue, and loss of bone mass.
