  • Save money by reducing household food waste

As we scrape uneaten food into the trash can after dinner every night or throw away moldy bread that we just didn’t get around to eating, many of us don’t see that wasted food as wasted money. But in fact, that’s just what it is.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently reported that the amount of uneaten food in American homes and restaurants in 2008 was about $390 in wasted food per each U.S. consumer. This is more than the average American spends on food each month.

  • Phase I applications due by June 18 for Ag development program

  • Homemakers: 75 years as the original social network

A cable is defined as a group of wires bundled together for the purpose of transmission; Extension is the cable that has been Extension Homemakers’ connection to Henry County for 75 years!

You’ll find them around every corner: Extension Homemaker volunteers who make a difference each day in local churches, community organizations, neighborhoods, senior centers and other organizations. In total, these unsung heroes are making a bigger impact than ever as local budgets evaporate and community needs escalate.

  • Group looking at meat processing options

By now, you may have heard rumors or reports that a meat processing plant may be built near Campbellsburg.

The idea of a local meat processing facility is at present, just a vision.  Here is the story: Since the middle of last year, a group of interested farmers, civic and government leaders has been discussing the potential and possibility of a meat processing facility which may be located in Henry County.

  • Yard sale season: eliminate unused items

Late spring and early summer are popular times of year for yard sales. Yard sales can often be a win-win for both the buyer and the seller. As people transition from winter to summer by cleaning out closets and spring cleaning they often notice the amount of stuff that has accumulated in their house over the last several months (or years).
