The first in a series of four pasture walks hosted by the Eden Shale Grazing Network Initiative will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m., June 2, at the Eden Shale Research Farm in Owenton.  The grazing network, overseen by a committee of forage experts, is designed for participants who have an interest in managing their forages and pastures for improved profitability. The walks provide an opportunity to see how others manage their forages, pastures and livestock while providing a chance to critique and question the operator.

As a reminder, the Kentucky Agriculture Development Fund Phase I Cost Share Program is now taking applications, and will do so until June 10 for any 2011 Funds. 
Applications are available at the Henry County Extension Office at 2151 Campbellsburg Rd., about two miles north of New Castle and across from the entrance to the Henry County Country Club.  In addition to answering nine questions about your farm and farming operation, you will need to submit your Tax ID number and your farm’s FSA number on the application.

The Henry County 4-H Shooting Sports program made a great showing at their first competition this year at the Brewer Invitational Kentucky Hunter Education Challenge.

The event was held on April 23 in Mercer County and is based on the combined scores of team members in the following categories: Wildlife ID, Hunter Safety Test, Hunter Safety Challenge Course, Rifle, Archery and Shotgun.
