  • Wet weather causing more delays

    Several people commented on my column last week where I mentioned our rain gauge volunteers and the diligent job they are doing reporting just how much and where the rains are occurring.  We can say with some assurance that this was the wettest April ever in Henry County, with every reporting station recording well more than the old Louisville record of 11.1 inches.  Our reports ranged from a low of 13.21 inches up to 17.90 inches, with most falling in the 14 to 15 inch range.

  • Wet weather is setting records

    Without question, the extremely wet weather pattern we experienced last week is one to remember. In fact, this looks like the wettest April EVER in much of Kentucky. The record for Louisville is 11.10 inches back in 1970.

  • Kentucky to exceed 155 markets in 2011

    It’s that time of year. Spring is in the air. Temperatures are rising, flowers and trees are beginning to bloom, and farmers’ markets are opening up all across the state.

    “Farmers’ markets give consumers the opportunity to buy fresh, nutritious foods that they can serve to their families with confidence,” Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer said. “They also enable the growers to capture a larger share of the food dollar.”

  • H.C. Cattleman’s meeting set for April 25

    The Henry County Cattleman’s Association will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 25, at the Henry County Extension Office.   We’ll start with a sponsored beef supper and then hear from sponsors ADM Feeds and Southern States.  Other short topics will include our Veterinarian’s Report, FFA Update, FSA/NRCS Update, Phase I Update, and an Extension Update.

  • Wee Warriors participating in Stars for Kids Now

    Stars for Kids Now is a voluntary system for licensed and certified child care programs. Programs are given a 1 to 4 Star rating. All Star levels are measurable quality indicators about the state minimum requirements.

    Wee Warriors Educational/Recreational Childcare in Eminence has been awarded a 2-star rating indicating that the program is seeking quality standards beyond the requirements for facility licensure.

  • Time to register for 4-H teen conference

    The Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference will be held on the campus of the University of Kentucky from June 13-16.  The conference is for teens who have completed their freshman year of high school, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have just graduated. 

    While attending the conference delegates will participate in several workshops and tracks of their choosing.  They will have an opportunity to take a campus tour and visit colleges within the university.  They will also participate in the election of 4-H State Officers for the upcoming year.
