  • Of mums and melons

     Interested in learning how horticulture production systems can be put to work on Henry County farms for marketable flowers and vegetables? At 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14, the Extension Service will offer a short demonstration featuring a simple irrigation and fertilizer system for container mums, and a plasticulture system for watermelons.  Featured guest speakers include Steve Berberich and Ty Cato, UK Extension Horticulture Associates.

  • District 4 Shooting Sports Competition results

    The Henry County Smart Shooters took top placing in the recent District 4 Shooting Sports Competition. 

    The two weekend event is one of the largest in the state. 

    The following are the results:  Trap ages 9-11 – Dylan Rankin placed second and Jacob Wilson placed third. 

    Henry County won the 1st Place team award with Dylan Rankin, Jacob Wilson, Logan Yount, Gavin Robinson, and Jacob Bowen. 

    In Recurve Archery  in the 9-11 age group Matthew Sharp placed 1st.

  • Exhibit Hall - A Trip Well Worth Your Time

    If you didn’t take the opportunity to see the exhibits at the Henry County Fair Exhibit Hall you missed seeing the biggest and best display we have had in years.

    There were hundreds of top quality arts, crafts, home baked goodies and produce entered by more than 100 different individuals. If you did miss the Fair be sure to plan to attend the Henry County Harvest Showcase scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 28 at the Henry County Fairgrounds.   • Great turn out for entries in the 4-H division

    The exhibit hall during the Henry County Fair was full of wonderful projects, photos, canned goods and handmade items.

    I hope that many of you took advantage of the air conditioning to cool off as well as check out all of the goodies inside the fairgrounds building.

    The following are the results in the 4-H division.

  • Drought could lead to livestock poisoning

    Drought and hot weather has increased the questions we are getting in the County Extension Office concerning cattle and cattle feeds.

    While this should be simply a reminder to experienced farmers, some of it may be beneficial, especially to newer farmers. These tips come from Dr. Roy Burris, Extension Beef Specialist at the UK Princeton Farm, who is, by the way, a very wise and experience cattleman himself.
