    Pleasant View Baptist Church will celebrate Choir Appreciation Day on Sunday, Aug. 23, during the 11 a.m. service. The speaker will be Minister Brenda Higgins, Associate Minister of Bethesda Church, Shelbyville.

    The Apostolic Pentecostal Church of the Living God, 124 Smith Lane, Bedford, will celebrate their 16th anniversary service and the district fellowship meeting of the ALJC, Saturday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. Steve Williamson of Louisville will be the guest speaker.     Has anyone ever said that to you?
    It doesn’t always work. I would have loved being one of those guys who played basketball, baseball and football.
    Actually, I did . . . in backyards and driveways.
    When it came to playing on our school teams, I lacked the coordination to play basketball or baseball.
    All the “try-harder” I could muster was not enough.

  • Air Force Airman Travis J. Bell graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
    Bell is the son of Joseph and Tonia Bell of Eminence and a 2015 graduate of Eminence High School.

  • Kayleigh Tallent would like to announce the birth of her brother, Christopher “Luke” Tallent. He was born July 4, 2015, and weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces.
    His parents are Shane and Bobbie Tallent.
    Grandparents are Donna Riley, Drennon; Larry and Aleshia Tallent, Shelbyville; and Lloyd Riley, Lockport.

    Sulphur Christian Church will throw a “Back2School Bash” Aug. 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with free food, games, prizes and music to kick off the new school year. This event will double as a Blessings in a Backpack food and fundraiser to benefit Campbellsburg Elementary students. The event is free but, donations will be accepted.
