  • The Cooperative Extension Service is planning to offer a ‘Beginning Farmer Program’ soon.  Many details are yet to be determined, although we do expect there to be as many as 12 different sessions including both classroom lectures and field trip visits. The Department of Agriculture Economics at UK will be involved in the final program, tailored to fit the type of agriculture in the region, and the composition of the class.

  • The Kentucky State 4-H Shoot was held Sept. 17-18. Henry County was well represented throughout the event with the following shooting sports members attending:  Jacob Yount, Jordan Campbell, Connor Toole, Todd Adams, James Pollard, Justin Yount, Jared Yount, Colt McGuire, Michael Murphy, Blake Jones, Devin Hagan, Clayton Perry, Jacob Wilson, Logan Yount, Jayson Murphy, Dylan Rankin and Gavin Robinson.

  • Bryan and Fran Nolin of Smithfield announce the birth of their son, Ryan Hampton Nolin, born Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Suburban Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19 inches long.  He has one brother, Baylor Nolin.

    Grandparents are Rick and Mary Louise Schepman, New Castle and Ann and Allen Nolin, Smithfield.

    Great-grandparents are Layton and Betsy Rouse, New Castle; Robert and Irene Ison, Frankfort; Berdine Nolin, Smithfield; Jean Moore, Frankfort and the late Russell Nolin.

  • Adam and Shannon Peiffer of Belleville, Ill., announce the birth of their son, Luke Josiah Peiffer born Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Belleville Memorial Hospital. He weighed 5 pounds 9 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Grandparents are Steve and Reba Pollard, Campbellsburg; Ron and Peggy Zearing, Lexington, Ind.; Nancy Peiffer, Belleville and Ernie and Jane Peiffer, Prairie Du Rocher, Ill.

    Great-grandparents are David and Shirley Watson, La Grange, and Ernie Peiffer, Millstadt, Ill.

  • Hayden and Samantha Estes would like to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their parents, Bobbie Morel and Devon Estes.

    The bride-elect is the daughter of Stephanie Deckard, Defoe and Robert Morel, Louisville.
    The groom is the son of Mark and Nancy Estes, Eminence.

    The wedding will take place at 1 p.m., Oct. 22, 2011, at the Bagdad Ruritan Club in Bagdad. A reception will follow. All friends and family are invited to attend.

  • Randall Lyons and Janice Shely of Bethlehem announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Samantha Lyons to Kevin Wright, son of Gerald Wright, Pendleton and Karen Wright, Louisville.

    The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Henry County High School and a 2011 graduate of the University of Kentucky.

    She is employed with both Henry County and Eminence Independent Schools.

    The groom-elect is a 2005 graduate of Henry County High School. He is a Conductor at CSX.

  • Barbara and Victor Ray Fallis of Pleasureville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Julia Dawn Spaulding of New Castle to Anthony Lee Smith of New Castle, son of Doug and Cindy Smith, Bagdad.

    The bride-elect is a 2003 graduate of Cornerstone Christian Academy and is pursuing a career in nursing.

    The groom-elect is a 2010 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture.

  • Laurie Beth Grigsby and William Harold (B.J.) Clark Jr of Frankfort were united in marriage at 1 p.m., Sept. 10, 2011.

    The wedding was held at Pleasureville Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Eastman officiating the ceremony. Music was “Tangled Up in You” by Aaron Lewis and “Only You Can Love me this Way” by Keith Urban.

  • Mark your calendar today—the next statewide 2nd Sunday is Oct. 9. 2nd Sunday is designed to get individuals, families and children moving and engaged in activity—whether they bike, walk, run, play or participate in fun and healthy activities.

    The idea for Kentucky’s focus on movement was inspired by a similar, popular event in Bogota, Columbia, where officials close more than 70 miles of roads to vehicles, opening them to local residents for exercise every Sunday.

  • The Henry County Extension Service and the Henry County Cattleman’s Association would like to invite you to the Regional Beef Field Day on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Taylor Cattle Farm at 7980 Hanna Road in Shelby County. 

    Registration will begin at 4 p.m., with farm tours starting about 5 p.m. 

    Topics and presentations will include limit feeding options, the Pfizer 50K program, carcass ultrasounding, and Marketing Options, as well as the History and an Overview of the Taylor Cattle Farm.
