• Federal law signals change in workplace culture

    A new federal law requiring employers to make accommodations for breast-feeding mothers will represent a big shift for some Kentucky companies because few have comprehensive plans.

  • Sunday wine sales considered

    After leading the charge at the state level, Chuck Smith of Smith-Berry Winery brought the issue of Sunday wine sales to the Henry County Courthouse.

    Along with his wife Mary, Smith has operated the small winery outside of New Castle for eight years. And in those eight years, he told the Henry County Fiscal Court last week, 80,000 to 100,000 people, from all 50 states and at least 12 countries, have visited the operation.

  • County unemployment decreases in August, remains below 2006 rate

    Henry County's unemployment rate decreased .6 percent from July, and also is .5 percentage points below August 2006 rates.

    Statewide, unemployment rate rose in 66 counties from August 2006 to August 2007, decreased in 45 counties and remained steady in 14 according to a press release from the Kentucky office of Employment and Training.

    Woodford County again posted the lowest jobless rate in the state with 3.8 percent.
