    Taxes, and utility rates, soon will go up in New Castle.

    Monday night, the city’s commission approved the first reading of the 2010 tax rate ordinance, which increased the property tax rate by 0.7 cents.

    Hampton’s loss could be Campbellsburg’s gain.

    Since 1951, the small Georgia city 30 miles south of Atlanta hosted two races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. In August, NASCAR and the owners of Kentucky Motor Speedway in Sparta, announced that at least one of those races will come to the Kentucky track next year.

    Property taxes in Eminence will rise next year, but only slightly.

    On a $100,000 home, taxes will go from $299 to $302, as the rate shifts to 30.2 cents per $100 assessed value, a 0.3-cent increase over current rates.

    Henry County historian Hammer Smith said anybody over 50 years old should remember something about the White Cottage Restaurant.

    The business was a combination gas station and restaurant, and at times even a nightclub of somewhat questionable legality.

  • County issues burn ban

    After almost a month without substantial rain, it’s more than a little bit dry outside.

    As a result, on Monday Henry County Judge-Executive John Logan Brent issued an open burning ban. The ban will remain in effect until the county receives substantial rainfall or until further notice.
