    May computer classes at the Henry County Public Library will begin with an introductory class on Tuesday, May 6, at 2 p.m. Follow up your introductory class with Microsoft Word for beginners on Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. Looking for a new job? Brush up on your resume skills on May 13, at 6 p.m. at the Making a Resume Class. Topics for the rest of the month include Microsoft Excel and Google applications.   • In the interim

    General Manager

    In October 1997, Port Royal Baptist church asked former Campbellsburg Christian Church pastor Carl Rucker to serve as their interim pastor.

    They asked him to serve while they looked for a new pastor. Two weeks into his temporary stay, Rucker was approached again.

    “In the second week in November, they said ‘would you stay with us through December,’ to which I responded that I would,” Rucker said. “About the middle of December, they asked if I would stay with them through 1998.”

  • Locals make long trek to celebrate Papal mass

    Saturday morning, several Henry County residents embarked on a 30-hour road trip. Jason Harris, Henry County Middle School math teacher, said it was a trip well worth the time.

    They were on a holy pilgrimage of sorts. Their destination? New York City’s Yankee Stadium.

  • CASA - a great way to support Child Abuse Prevention Month

    As the Henry County CARE Team prepares for their 10th Annual Celebration KIDS event, we looked for an agency to feature in highlighting Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention in Henry County. We immediately thought of our friends at CASA. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are building their program in Henry, Oldham and Trimble Counties. We would like to thank CASA volunteer, Mary Jo Robb, for taking time to explain more about the program. Here are her answers to our interview questions

  • Judge rules for county in garbage case

    A Circuit Court judge issued a ruling declaring the county’s mandatory garbage ordinance franchise fee was legal and not unreasonable, ending a four-year legal battle for the Henry County.

    The case began the Henry County Concerned Citizens filed a class action law suit in 2004. At the time, attorney William Sturm said he and his clients felt the mandatory garbage collection ordinance and exclusive franchise agreement with Rumpke were “illegal and invalid” and should be declared unconstitutional. In her ruling, Conrad disagreed.

  • Eminence Elementary receives $31,005 Crumb Rubber grant

    With national and local playground injuries on the rise, Eminence Elementary Administrators have chosen crumb rubber tire surfacing rather than the current wood mulch to prevent playground injuries, save money and increase lost instructional time due to falls to the surface on the elementary playground.

    • The United Citizens Bank Relay For Life team is raffling two beautiful Mother’s Day baskets. Tickets are $1 each or seven for $5 and are available at any of the Henry County locations.   • Ground broken for 'unique' playground

    On the one year anniversary of his death, many said Michael Brent surely would be smiling down upon the scene April 17 in the new Henry County Park.

    It was there that four shovels pierced the grassy ground in a ceremonial gesture for what will, one day, be a very unique playground.

    The playground will be one that all children, those who are able bodied and those who are not, will be able to enjoy.
