Though the newly crowned Miss Kentucky 2008, Alysha Harris, has ties to Henry County - Harris spent some of her younger years in the county and has relatives here - another finalist in the pageant calls the county home.

Chelsey McGlothin, of Sulphur, was the fourth runner-up in the pageant that serves as a qualifier for the Miss USA pageant.

Unlike the Miss USA pageant, the Miss Kentucky pageant has no qualifying pageant. McGlothin said there is an application process, however.

In 1992, an organization formed to act as a sort of academic booster club for Eminence Independent schools. In the 16 years since, the group has raised and distributed more than $75,000 for the benefit of the district's students and teachers.

EIS Superintendent Donald Aldridge said the Eminence Education Foundation has served with the mission to "raise funds for the good and the betterment," of the district's students.

Kelly Mathis, a foundation board member, said the foundation functions similarly to the school's athletic boosters.

Two men were apprehended Friday, Jan. 18, by Kentucky State Police after allegedly robbing the Campbellsburg Cowboy's at knifepoint.

Jesse Brian Waller, 24, of Key Largo, Fla., and Jason Butcher, 34, of Grove City, Ohio, each were charged with first degree robbery.

According to a press release from KSP, the store's clerk called post-5 to report the robbery just after 3:30 a.m. Friday morning.

County fire departments now will be able to purchase radio and pager equipment directly instead of applying for 911 funds through the Henry County Fiscal Court.

Magistrate Jerry Beasley proposed a motion that each fire department receive an annual allocation of $1,600 for such equipment.

"On (the) 911 pagers, batteries and radios, I'd like to make a motion that we cap it at $1,600 for the radios, pagers and batteries. That way the fire departments can purchase whichever one they want.
