  • County man indicted for eight felonies

    The Henry County Grand Jury has indicted a Henry County man on six counts of first degree rape, a class B felony.

    Barry Lee Payton, 35, also was indicted on one count of attempted first degree rape and first degree sodomy.

    According to the case file, the rapes occured from Oct. 6-11, and the attempted rape occured on Oct. 12, 2007.

  • C'Burg Cowboy's robbed at knifepoint

    Two men were apprehended Friday, Jan. 18, by Kentucky State Police after allegedly robbing the Campbellsburg Cowboy's at knifepoint.

    Jesse Brian Waller, 24, of Key Largo, Fla., and Jason Butcher, 34, of Grove City, Ohio, each were charged with first degree robbery.

    According to a press release from KSP, the store's clerk called post-5 to report the robbery just after 3:30 a.m. Friday morning.

  • Lawmakers get more bad news on revenue shortfall

    A non-partisan group of economists has released a bleak forecast for the state's projected revenue shortfall that shows a greater deficiency than expected.

    The Consensus Forecasting Group released data last week.

    The group's previous forecast from October indicated that the state would be about $117 million short for the remainder of the fiscal year.

  • Fiscal Court sets $1,600 radio, pager account limit

    County fire departments now will be able to purchase radio and pager equipment directly instead of applying for 911 funds through the Henry County Fiscal Court.

    Magistrate Jerry Beasley proposed a motion that each fire department receive an annual allocation of $1,600 for such equipment.

    "On (the) 911 pagers, batteries and radios, I'd like to make a motion that we cap it at $1,600 for the radios, pagers and batteries. That way the fire departments can purchase whichever one they want.

  • Snow day results in slick roads

    Snow and slick roads caused at least 10 accidents and cancelled school for some students in the county Tuesday.

    Kentucky State Police Trooper Rick Ellis reported two morning wrecks on northbound I-71, including a flipped semi near the 29 mile marker. Traffic was stalled slightly for more than an hour because of clean up efforts there, Ellis said. The driver of the semi was not injured.

    Another morning wreck on northbound I-71, near the 33 mile marker produced non-life threatening injuries, according to KSP reports.

  • Henry County Fair named best of 2007

    For the first time in its 60 year history, the Henry County Fair has received a truly unique honor.

    During the Convention of the Kentucky Association of Fairs and Horse Shows at Lousville's Galt House, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture named the 2007 Henry County Fair the best fair of 2007. The fair also received the 2007 designation for the most progressive fair.

  • Schools likely to feel a pinch in '09, county OK

    As the Kentucky General Assembly looks to get control of a projected state budget shortfall of nearly $400 million over the next two years, local officials are preparing for the impact that shortfall will mean in Henry County.

    Henry County Judge-Executive John Logan Brent said the overall impact for Henry County likely would be small. But community projects might be the first to go. "As they get into number-crunching, probably any of those special community-type projects that help your community (to) grow, get cut," he said.

  • One man's love of trains brings a caboose to Pleasureville

    To say Pleasureville resident Darrell Burke is fascinated by trains might just be an understatement. Combined with a love of antiques, Burke has three hand-pulled railroad cart/wagons and old railroad memorabilia, including antique crossing signs. Recently, however, he added to his collection in a big way.

    Burke purchased a former CSX Caboose and brought it to town.

  • No more frog pond - Council approves resolution to open Eminence pool

    In front of a standing-room-only crowd Monday night, Eminence City Council unanimously passed a resolution to "make every reasonable effort" to reopen the city's swimming pool by June 2008. The crowd erupted in cheers and hoots after the vote.

    Councilman Shawn Bright said it is a big goal. "I just want to reiterate that June 1 is a quick date. ... We're four months and 17 days away from (June 1). We're 20 weeks away. We're 138 days away," he said. "That is a quick date; let's try to make that goal if we can."
