  • Shots fired at house

    General Manager

    Kentucky State Police are looking for a man who they say fired shots at a house in southeastern Henry County late Monday night.

    KSP Public Affairs Officer Michael Webb said that at around 10:45 p.m. Monday, May 10, a man, for unknown reasons, fired shots at a home on Flat Creek Road, near the Franklin County Line.

    Webb said KSP have a suspect, but he has not yet been found. An arrest warrant for Chester T. McDonald, 34, with a charge of attempted murder was issued with a $500,000 cash bond.

  • Smith resigns

    Nearly a year since his last meeting, Henry County Public Schools Board of Education member John Smith Jr., has resigned.

    Smith served Henry County’s first district on the HCPS Board of Education since 1977. When he suffered a stroke June 30, 2009, it came as a big blow to the community.

    At that time, board chairman Donnie Tipton said the board voted to excuse Smith until such a time he or his family could make a decision.

    Now, almost a year later, that decision has been made.

  • Primary Election 2010: Incumbent Nick Hawkins to face Tammy Sharp

    For the fourth district magisterial seat, a first term incumbent will face off against a former member of the New Castle City Commission.

    District 4 Magistrate candidate Tammy Sharp, 43, juggles family, work and civic duty.

    She is married and has two biological children, but also is raising two nieces and in the process of adopting a nephew.

    Sharp believes a different perspective would be an asset as a new magistrate.

  • New Castle Christian welcomes a new minister

    New Castle Christian Church’s new pastor Tommy Lanham is accustomed to living in a small town.

    He grew up in a little place called Keavy in Laurel County, but Lanham and his family most recently lived in Nicholasville.

    “If you live more than 15 miles from Keavy, you’ve never heard of it,” he said.

    Lanham and his wife, Tammy, have two children — Appolonya, 6, and Dylan, 3.

  • Gala to create murder mystery

    The Henry County Historical Society does not condone criminal intent, so justice and dinner will be served at this year’s gala event, “Murder in May.”

    Festivities begin at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 15 at the Smith-Berry Winery, New Castle where a well-seasoned traveling troupe of characters from Random Acts will give a murderer his comeuppance in a courtroom “dramedy.”
