  • N.C. puts second read on hold

    A utility expansion ordinance for the City of New Castle was placed on hold Monday night by the city commission. The commission did so at the suggestion of City Attorney Joe Yates. Yates recommended the city give approximately 12 property owners a chance to enter into an agreement with the city in which the owners would sign statements that they would not oppose any possible future annexation. In return, those property owners would be able to tap onto the city’s current water and sewer lines for $750, instead of the $1,500 proposed in the ordinance.

  • Eminence resident has almost 200 nativity scenes

    Staff writer and photographer For Beulah “Bootie” Payton, the Christmas season starts the day after Halloween, Nov. 1. That’s when she puts up her first nativity scene. It’s a more traditional one that’s roughly three feet in length. It’s adorned with gold tinsel garland and sits tastefully atop a wooden hutch in the living room of her Eminence home.

  • News Briefs for December 5, 2007

    Dog licenses available This is a reminder that the 2008 Henry County dog licenses are now available. The costs of the license is $5 for an altered animal and $10 for an unaltered anial. You must bring proof of current rabies vaccination when purchasing the license. All dogs in Henry County must be licensed.

  • School board receives Sunrise Award

    During last week's meeting of the Henry County Board of Education, Seven Counties Services presented the board, and three district employees in particular - Denise Perry, Renata Ingram and Cathy Wilson - with the organization's sunrise award.

    "The educators of Henry county have come to an understanding that something we have to strive to instill through our school based programs - that comprehensive delivery of mental health services - creates a better learning environment," Bob Elliot, Seven Counties Services' Chairman of the Board, said.

  • Clerk's proposed budget includes $55,440 increase in excess fees

    By Jonna Spelbring Priester General Manager During last week’s Henry County Fiscal Court meeting, Henry County Clerk Juanita Lashley presented the first draft of her 2008 budget. The budget includes a 10 percent forcasted increase in receipts, and an 8.9 percent forecasted increase in total disbursements.

The data book reports information, by county, based on 47 indicators of child well-being.
