    Local talent was proudly displayed at the annual Henry County Pride in Arts Sunday at Eminence Christian Church. Performers played instruments, sang and read poetry and the Christmas story was shared.

    The contest, sponsored by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and its Managing in Tough Times Initiative, is held every fall in anticipation of Kentucky Saves Week.
    Kentucky Saves Week encourages people to start or increase their personal savings and will be Feb. 27 through March 4, 2017.

  • Is freezing already causing watering problems?

    Luckily in Kentucky, we don’t have harsh winters, but we still have to deal with ice whether around our homes or in the barn.
    I have written before about the necessity of water for livestock and how important it is to have fresh, clean water at all times.
    Also, winter feed such as hays and grains are low in moisture, so the animals’ water needs can be increased during cold weather.
    If ice is present, your animals could become severely dehydrated. Below are a few options for keeping fresh water to your animals.

  • Family meals: Commit to ‘Dining In’

    The Norman Rockwell painting of the family sitting around the dinner table seems to have been relegated to bygone days.  
    The busier we get, the harder it is to have a family meal.  
    Dec. 3 has been designated as “Dining In Day” and hopes to help us realize just how important family meals are.
    According to a recent study conducted by Columbia University, there are some benefits to eating as a family, including better school success, instilling family values and dealing with weight concerns.

    Out-of-control wildfires and extremely dry conditions have led approximately 100 Kentucky counties to issue a ban on open burning, including Henry, according to the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
