  • EIS makes CATS goal

    General Manager

    For Eminence Independent Schools, the 2008 CATS results brought mostly good news.

    As a district, EIS exceeded its accountability goal of 83.7 with a biennium accountability index of 85.4. The district also continued a reduction in its novice rate, falling below its novice goal of 15.23 with an average of 10.22 for the 2007-2008 biennium.

  • Park could be community effort

    I am writing today on the topic of the Eminence public pool. The Making Waves Foundation has raised several thousand dollars from the community in an effort to restore our city pool. Shawn Bright said in the newspaper article regarding the restoring of the pool “that was a lot of money for one group of kids.” Since the estimates kept rising out of control, the city pulled the plug on the pool project and now we are left with thousands of dollars and still nothing for the kids to do.

  • IKE HUFFS & PUFFS & BLOWS THE TREES DOWN

    The remnants of Hurricane Ike blew through the Kentuckiana region Sunday afternoon leaving downed trees and power lines in its wake – but Henry County was left relatively unscathed.

    The winds left hundreds of thousands of LG&E and Kentucky Utilities customers without power throughout the region. Monday afternoon, more than 240,000 LG&E and KU customers still were without power. In Louisville, the National Guard was brought in to help patrol in the city and aid with clean-up.

  • Campbellsburg sewer, annexation face new problem

    A Campbellsburg property owner warned the Campbellsburg City Council Monday night that they were “putting the cart before the horse.”

    The cart is a move to annex property north of I-71 into the city limits, and the horse is completion of a utility bore under the interstate that would pave the way for sewer access to businesses that could be annexed.

    Mike Frazier, one of several property owners, indicated that putting the cart before the horse could affect how the owners vote.

  • Young Lady Warriors still improving with 1-10 record

    With their one win this season coming against Evangel Christian a few weeks ago, the Eminence Lady Warriors were hoping to put a second check in the win column when they took on Evangel Tuesday night on the road.

    Counting its four losses last week — Whitefield Academy, Spencer County, Trimble County and Williamstown — Eminence is 1-10 with the volleyball season more than halfway through. But the Lady Warriors are continuing to improve, first-year head coach Kristen Lively said.

  • Black becomes first HC golfer to play in boys' All 'A' Classic

    Henry County High School freshman Garrett Black became the first golfer in school history to play in the boys’ All “A” Classic State Golf Tournament when he took on some of the best small-school golfers from across the state at the Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond Saturday.

    Black had to deal with a hot and muggy day, along with a very tough course, and finished with a 99 for 18 hilly holes. His goal was to break 100, which he bettered by one stroke during a slow-played tournament.

  • Warriors hold off Trimble in a wild fourth quarter, 26-24

    In what Steve Frommeyer dubbed a “bizarre and unusual” fourth quarter, Eminence was able to hold off Trimble County down the stretch for a slim 26-24 victory, which gave the Warriors a perfect 3-0 start to the football season.
