    Zach Woods, who has been second-in-command as the assistant principal of Henry County High School for the last six years, recently was named principal at Henry County Middle School.

    Benefit Poker Run for Tyana Smith

    A benefit poker run for Tyana Smith will be held on Saturday, August 2. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Hometown Pizza in Eminence at $10 a hand. Ride will begin at 1 p.m. and leave from Hometown parking lot. The first 20 to register will receive a free t-shirt. $10 shirts, 50/50 drawings, Best/Worst Hand and a meal after the ride.   • Pain in the wallet

    When the price of something as essential as fuel to get to a job or operate a farm becomes prohibitive, what do people do?

    Terry Reynolds, Eminence, recently put gas in his car at BP in Eminence. He said being currently unemployed, he needs to look for work, but without a paycheck he can’t fill his tank.

    “I’ve only put 60 miles on my car in the last two weeks,” Reynolds said. “Normally I’d be out looking every day. As far as I’m going today is Smithfield.”

  • Thanks to all who participated in Relay for Life 2008

    Although Relay 2008 was cut short by stormy weather on June 27, it didn’t come to a screeching halt. On Saturday evening, July 19 more than 60 people including team members, team captains, survivors and Relay supporters met at the Henry County Fairgrounds for a special three hour Relay Finale ending with a moving Luminary Ceremony.

    On the first day of school in less than a month, at least one Henry County High School senior will have a fascinating response to the clich question, “What did you do this summer?”

    Josh Barnett, age 17 and resident of New Castle, is the son of Angie Imel and stepson of Bryan Imel. This summer, he participated in a foreign exchange program through E.On, his stepfather’s place of employment.

    The program, “Making Friends,” paired Barnett with a 17-year-old boy from Kassel, Germany.

  • Garbage lawsuit to be appealed

    The Concerned Citizens for Henry County Government LLC lawsuit against the county is far from over, according to the group.

    The case, which focuses on the county’s mandatory garbage collection ordinance and corresponding franchise fee, began in 2005.

    On July 9, CCHCG attorney William Sturm issued a press release stating the group filed an appeal with the Kentucky Court of Appeals to review the March 16 decision by Henry County Circuit Court Judge Karen Conrad, who ruled in favor of the county.
