  • Pool issue will not be forgotten

    Now that it is June (the month that the Eminence City Council voted to reopen the swimming pools), I thought it would be important for citizens (voters) to know the actual facts, not rumors, not politicians spin, about what happened to the pool project.

    • The four council members who voted to “pull the plug” on the pool project had previously campaigned to reopen the pool.

    • The council voted six different times to support reopening the pool. (Please see Eminence “minutes” online.)

  • Ethics committee meets for first time

    General Manager

    For the first time since its creation in the 1990s, the Eminence Ethics Committee held a meeting to discuss concerns raised by a resident.

    The board, comprised of three Eminence residents, gathered to discuss a letter from Eminence resident Doug Gingrich regarding a complaint he wanted to file.

    Committee chairman Robert Eades said he didn’t see a complaint within the letter against a city official.

  • One dead after explosion at C.A. Garner

    News Intern

    A Pendleton man lost his life and another was injured during a propane tank explosion at the C.A. Garner Veneer plant in Smithfield on May 31.

    Michael Guse, 50, and Rick DeBurger, both plant managers, were unloading a propane tank from DeBurger’s pick-up truck when they noticed a leak. Guse removed his shirt to shut the valve and the static electricity from the shirt ignited the tank, according to Guy Coombs, Lake Jericho Fire Department Chief. Guse died as a result of his injuries on June 5 at the University of Louisville Hospital.

  • Cicada Recipes

    Just like many of nature’s creations, even cicadas are edible. Here are a couple of recipes to make use of all those cicadas buzzing around.

    HOW TO DRY ROAST CICADAS

    Place cicadas on a cookie sheet and roast for 10 to 15 minutes at 225 degrees F. Cooking time will vary depending on size and water levels. Check your cicadas when you remove them from the oven. They should be a soft dry consistency, a bit like a nut. If they are still moist inside, they should be roasted for longer.

    Each year, across the nation, one event brings together entire communities to take part in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. It’s a time and place where people come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we’ve lost and fight back against a disease that touches too many lives.

    Music on Main, Friday, June 13

    Music on Main is this Friday night, June 13 and the City of Eminence wants to invite everyone to attend. This is a night full of fellowship, food, fun and live music.

    The Live music will be provided by local band, Silver Wings! The night will start at 5:30 p.m. with a great selection of food- Eminence Christian Church will have a Fish Fry, barbecue and more, Hot Diggity Dawgs will be there and Hometown Pizza will have a great selection of pizza and drinks. The live band will take the stage at 7 p.m. and will play until 11 p.m.

  • Adult education holds graduation ceremony

    It was standing room only Sunday afternoon as family and friends gathered to see their loved ones gradate from the Adult Education Program.

    Program Director Katrina Ackerman welcomed the crowd for attending what she called a “major milestone” in the graduates’ educations.

  • Thank you to a member of the Eminence City Council

    I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to one of the Eminence City Council members. This member, in my opinion, is the type of person that understands his duty as a member of the Eminence City Council. I called him to see if he could help my family with a problem and he assured me that he would try and get it solved. When I hung up the phone I thought that he would get back with me in a few days but the very next day not only did he call me back, but he had already solved my problem. I know that this might seem small to some but it meant a lot to my family.
