    The WHAS Crusade for Children, Inc. established in 1954 by WHAS-TV, raises money for agencies, schools and hospitals to better the lives of special needs children. One-hundred percent of each donation is returned to the community through grants to agencies, schools and hospitals that make lives better for special needs children in all 120 counties in Kentucky and more than 50 counties in Indiana.

    As a resident of Henry County, I never thought I would be the one facing a break in at my home. I am a single mother of four and trying to provide a decent living for my family when the unthinkable happened someone broke into my house taking several items that meant a lot to me and my children. I called the Eminence Police and they came right out and were very attentive to the situation. They came back several times checking on my family and gathering more information on my case.

    Sometimes it just feels like something is missing. Connie Scriber, co-owner of the new Scriber’s Station On Elm, thought so and went out to change that with the help of his nephew, Jason Scriber.

    Located at 697 Elm St. in Eminence, Scriber’s Station On Elm offers the Henry County community a convenient and refreshing dining experience, according to co-owners Connie and Jason Scriber.

  • Community Calendar for the week of June 4, 2008

    Wednesday, June 4

    Karate classes will be held at the Community Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

    Children’s Story and Craft hour every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Pleasureville Christian Church. Community Library open to the public from 1 to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

    Eastern Elementary will have a SBDM Council meeting in the school library at 4 p.m.

  • Spring Fling is fast approaching

    The New Castle Spring Fling is right around the corner scheduled for Saturday, June 14. It will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., rain or shine! This year the parade will line up at New Castle Elementary School. There will be fire departments, police, floats, marchers, antique cars, antique tractors, beauty queens, ball teams, celebrities and much more! This year there will be two surprises in the parade.   • Fire claims Pleasureville residence

    Little Man means so much to Charles Jennings, that he went against the advice of friends from the Pleasureville Fire Department to save him.

    Jennings rescued the treasured family member last week as the family’s home was engulfed by flames.

    “Little Man has been a part of our family for a long time,” Jennings said. “He means more to me than the house.”

    I am very excited at the prospect of joining the staff of the Henry County Local.

    The desire to be a contributing member of a close-knit community and my natural curiosity have happily coincided with an opportunity to report and write for this award-winning newspaper. I look forward to meeting the people who know and love the area and can give me insight into what makes Henry County such a special place. The newspaper staff has already welcomed me warmly.

  • Fischer leads Cats at state meet with 3,200-meter record

    Out of the four Henry County athletes that participated in the Class 2A Kentucky State Track and Field Championships at the University of Louisville’s Cardinal Park over the weekend, it was eighth-grader Cassey Fischer that came through with the top performance for the Cats.
