  • Ky 146 $ approved

    After a tumultuous week in which the Kentucky 146 reconstruction project was out, then back in again, Governor Steve Beshear approved, mostly, the state’s two-year road plan.

    “The highway plan was delivered to (Beshear’s) desk at noon Thursday (April 12), which gave him just a few hours to go over it,” State Representative and Budget Committee Chairman Rick Rand told members of the Henry County Fiscal Court.

    I am currently chief deputy circuit clerk and I have been since 2005 with Mary Lou Roberts. Leland Payton (former clerk) hired me in 1988 as a temp and I have been there 24 years. I have really enjoyed the job. We have some great people to work with and it is an important job.

  • Shannon Treece to be new Eminence High, Middle School Principal

    Shannon Treece knew she wanted to be a teacher.

    Growing up on a dairy farm in Henry County, she didn’t know if she could make it through college. When she finally stepped into the classroom as a teacher, she knew it was where she wanted to be the rest of her life.

    Treece will start as principal of Eminence High/Middle School July 1. Her return to the county and community as an educator speaks to Treece’s desire for service.

  • Lady Cats sweep double-header

    In games so one-sided neither coach had much to say, the Henry County Lady Cats swept the Eminence Warriors in a double-header on Friday.

    The Lady Cats won both games, 10-0 and 18-0.

    In the first game of the doubleheader against Eminence the Lady Cats got a strong pitching performance from Krista Deburger.

    Deburger threw a no-hitter as she struck out 14 of 16 batters. She also had two hits in the game with two RBI’s. Vaughn also had two hits including a triple.

  • The good and bad of softball

    It was, Bill Covington noted dryly, a week that showed “the good and bad” of Eminence softball.

    Friday, the Warriors turned in a disappointing performance against Henry County. But just two days prior, they played what Covington said may have been their best game of the season, a 6-8 loss to Owen County.

    “We were behind 7-0 after two innings, and then we held them to one run the rest of the game,” Covington said. “We played really good defense.”

  • Fall after tough seventh inning against Walton-Verona

    In a classic pitchers’ duel, the Henry County Wildcats earned a 5-1, come-from-behind win in 10 innings over Carroll County.

    Carroll County struck first in the April 17 game with a run in the bottom of the third, after loading the bases with two singles and a walk. Another single pushed across their only run of the game.
