  • Ladycats second at First Citizens Bank Classic

    In a season that has already resembled a seesaw, the Henry County girls’ basketball team got back on top with a second-place finish at the First Citizens Bank Classic, hosted by North Bullitt High School last week.

    The Cats, who started this basketball season at 3-0 before dropping five of their next six games, defeated host North Bullitt (57-43) last Monday, lost to Moore (60-45) on Tuesday and beat Atherton (60-47) on Wednesday. It gave them the runners-up spot in the round-robin tournament and evened their overall record at 6-6.

  • Henry County Middle School basketball news

    Henry 55, Owen 24: The Henry County Middle School boys’ eighth-grade basketball team jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter against Owen County on Dec. 7 and ended the game ahead 55-24. Chase Howard scored 12 points to lead Henry, while Landon New scored 10, Blake Isaacs and James Wundrak scored eight each, Austin Young scored six, Nacona Jeffries scored five, Bradley west scored four and Dylan Adams scored two.

  • N.C. to look at hydrant replacement

    New Castle may have to dig deep to replace five of its more than 40 fire hydrants within the district.

    Commissioner Denny Benham said several hyrdrants are working but will not drain.

    “We can’t hardly crank the stem on one of them to get it open,” he said.

    New Castle’s public works director Scot Treece said it probably would be best to replace them at a cost of about $3,000 each.

  • Henry County double header moved to Saturday

    Henry County High School's double header against Owen County scheduled for Friday night has been moved to Saturday due to the weather, HCHS Athletics Director Todd Gilley said.

    The icy road conditions closed Henry County Public Schools both Thursday and Friday and pushed the anticipated showdown back one day. Saturday's games will keep the same scheduled starting times with the boys' game playing at 6 p.m. and the girls' game playing at 7:30 p.m. at Roy L. Winchester Gym. There will also be two junior varsity games being played at the same time in the smaller gym, Gilley said.

  • Highland Renaissance 24-Hour Race

    The Highland Renaissance site in Eminence will host a 24-hour footrace on March 13-14, starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday and finishing at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Labeled The Highland Renaissance 24-Hour Race, runners can compete as individuals or on four-person relay teams with one runner competing at a time. The course follows a 3-mile loop consisting of a mixture of grass, gravel and trails. A total count of the miles from all individuals and teams will be kept during the duration of this event. The top three males, top three females and top three teams receive awards.

  • U.S. 421 bridge reopens

    Three months after construction was originally scheduled to be completed, the U.S. 421 bridge in Campbellsburg has reopened.

    According to a press release issued by the Kentucky Department of Transportation Tuesday morning, the bridge reopened on New Year’s Eve.

  • Community Calendar for the week of January 6, 2010

    Wednesday, January 6

     

    Karate classes will be held at the Community Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

     

    Children’s Story and Craft hour every Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Pleasureville Christian Church. Also, the community library at the church is open to the public.

     

    The Henry County Middle School SBDM meeting will be held in the conference room at 4:30 p.m.

  • A Wii bit of fun

    Henry County’s Life Enrichment Center is known locally as the senior center, but Activities Director Debbie Drury wants residents to know it belongs to everyone in the county.

    The Tri-County Community Action Agency’s senior program does use the facility every week day, and it appears to be the “cool” place to be for the over-60 set.

    An amended property ordinance intended to give the city more oomph in the enforcement of property maintenance was approved on first reading by the Pleasureville Commission Monday night.

    But conversation about the ordinance was strained for at least the second month in a row.
