    Troy and Cheryl Evans of New Castle announce the birth of their daughter, Carly Mae Evans born March 18, 2011 at Baptist Hospital East. She weighed 8 pounds 8.6 ounces and was 19 ¾ inches long.

    She has three siblings: Chase, Cydney and Carson.

    Grandparents are Dennis and Terri Vaughn, New Castle; William Smith and Kelly Mathis, Eminence; and Kenny and Sandy Evans, Port Royal.

  • BIRTH - Evelyn Victoria Evans

    Kenny and Amy Evans of Holly Ridge, North Carolina announce the birth of their daughter, Evelyn “Evie” Victoria Evans born March 2, 2011 at Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, North Carolina.

    She weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    She has one sibling, Austin.

    Grandparents are Robert and Kathleen Hallstrom, Pittsburgh, PA; and Kenny and Sandy Evans, Port Royal.

  • BIRTH - Dallas Michael Anthony McGuire

    Aury and Michael McGuire  announce the birth  of their son, Dallas Michael Anthony McGuire born March 15, 2011. He weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

    He has two siblings, Erica and Cloie.

    Grandparents are Angie Puckett, Carrollton and the late Michael Puckett; and Michelle McGuire, Carrollton.

    Great-grandparents are Celine Aaron, Texas and the late Roger Aaron; Norma Puckett, Carrollton and the late Charles Puckett and Betty McGuire, Carrollton.

    Kevin and Tammy Murphy of Crestwood announce the birth of their daughter, Karissa Dawn Murphy, born March 8, 2011, at Norton Suburban Hospital. She weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    She has four siblings: Shawn, Chris, Devon and Katelyn.

    Grandparents are Darlene Winiecki, New Castle and Thelma Murphy, Louisville.

  • Wet weather causing more delays

    Several people commented on my column last week where I mentioned our rain gauge volunteers and the diligent job they are doing reporting just how much and where the rains are occurring.  We can say with some assurance that this was the wettest April ever in Henry County, with every reporting station recording well more than the old Louisville record of 11.1 inches.  Our reports ranged from a low of 13.21 inches up to 17.90 inches, with most falling in the 14 to 15 inch range.

  • AOC offers county new courthouse

    It was a surprise to John Logan Brent; he thought the meeting was going to be about something completely different.

    When representatives from the Administrative Office of the Courts set an appointment with him about three weeks ago, Brent thought it would be a discussion about handicap accessibility. Little did Brent know that AOC would drop a $12.5 million offer on his desk.
