  • Take precautions,manage pastures during high heat

    The Henry County Cattleman’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 24, at the Henry County Extension Office.  Warren Beeler, Kentucky Department of Agriculture Director of Policy, will discuss several current issues concerning the livestock industry.  Reports will include the veterinarians report, FFA report, FSA report and an update on the Phase I CAIP program. 

    Reservations are required.  Please contact the Henry County Extension Office at 845-2811 to reserve your spot.

    County Fair
    Enter your exhibits on Monday, July 1! Be watching for the Fair catalog to check out what you will enter. If you didn’t take the opportunity to see the exhibits at the Henry County Fair Exhibit Hall last year you missed seeing the biggest and best display we have had in years. There were hundreds of top quality arts, crafts, home baked goodies and produce entered by more than 100 different individuals. The Exhibit Hall will be open to view On July 1 and 2 from 6 until 9 p.m.

  • Once a Cat, now a travelling Cardinal

    Former Henry County Lady Cat softball player Ally Vaughn recently completed her

    freshman year as a first basemen and outfielder at the University of Louisville.

    Playing for a Division I school has allowed her to travel the country.

    “My college experience as a player and student has been great,” Vaughn said. “I have made a lot of new friends and gotten to experience a lot of things. I got to travel the U.S. with the softball team from Las Vegas to Florida to New York City, to Rhode Island, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Notre Dame.

  • Beverlys' judo legacy lives on

    Robert Beverly of Bethlehem is pursuing a dream that requires dedication, determination and a lot of hard work.

    Beverly is on the US Olympic Training Center Judo Team in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

    As a high school competitor for Owen County, Beverly learned the sport from his mother Doris Beverly who competed in judo at Henry County High School in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

    Doris Beverly learned the sport from long time Henry County Middle School teacher Keith Ritchey who still works in the school system as the homebound teacher.

  • Adams show improvement in first year

    Former Eminence Warrior first baseman Todd Adams has continued his baseball career this year as a freshman for the Pikeville University Bears. Adams played first base and some outfield this year mostly for the JV team.

    “My college experience has been different both as a player and a student. As far as baseball, the skills and level of play is increased so much from high school it takes a little adjusting. As far as school, the biggest adjustment is that you are on your own. Everything from eating to studying is on you.”

  • Peyton competes at Junior PGA

    MacKenzie Peyton competed in the PGA Junior Series tour event at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington on June 4-6.

    More than 50 girls from across the country competed in the 54-hole event.

    Peyton finished tied for 12th place after shooting 77-69-82 for a 228 total.

    Maddie Hamilton of Louisville and Jessica Porvasnik of Hinckley, Ohio, were tied for first place at 213 after completing the third round.

    Hamilton, who plays for Sacred Heart and is a regional rival of Peyton, won in a three-hole playoff.

  • Sharpshooters compete at Washington Co. Invitational

    The Henry County 4-H Sharpshooters traveled to Chaplin, Ky. to compete in the Washington Co. Invitational on June 1. Once again, the Sharpshooters had big wins in every category.

  • Camp SPIKE!

    The Henry County Lady Cats volleyball team hosted a youth camp for girls in second through 10th grades last week. The girls participated in various drills to improve the fundamental skills of passing, setting, serving and hitting. They also had fun games included each day including relays and dodge ball.
