  • Campellsburg police chief resigns post

    General Manager

    Starting Friday, the City of Campbellsburg will find itself without a police chief.

    Campbellsburg Police Chief Paul McDonald submitted his resignation to Mayor Carl Rucker last week, and the city council was officially notified during Monday night’s council meeting.

    Rucker told the council that when McDonald submitted his resignation, it was not a good day.

    Following in the footsteps of Henry County volleyball team’s record-breaking season — when the Ladycats won a school record 19 matches and claimed their first district title in school history — won’t be an easy task, but it makes it a little easier with a majority of those same players back in the lineup.

    The Henry County girls’ golf team will juggle its schedule this year to go against more stiff competition, be eligible to play in the 8th Region All “A” Classic for the first time and make the switch from the 6th Region to the 5th Region in post-season action. But the squad will basically be the exact same team from last year’s recording-breaking group, just a year wiser, a year stronger and a year better.

    Fall Fling pageants

    As part of the 9th Annual New Castle Fall Fling Sat., Oct. 4, we will have many pageants. The pageants will be on the courthouse steps. You must pre-register Aug. 25, 27-30 to be in the pageants. It will cost $5 per child to register. The child must be a resident of Henry County. There will be no judges. Whoever has the most five-cent votes will win.

  • Campbellsburg makes annexation process formal

    It’s official — the Campbellsburg City Council will seek to expand the city’s boundaries.

    During its meeting Monday night, the council approved the first reading of an ordinance declaring the city’s intent to annex.

    The move makes formal a process that began months ago.

    For several days I observed a beautiful female ruby-throated hummingbird. She sat just outside my dining room window. I watched as she perched on the branch of an old Mock Orange bush.

    In familiar fashion, the Eminence volleyball team will have a young team this season with a majority of middle school, freshmen and sophomore players. And the Lady Warriors are still trying to get back on the winning side of things after a couple of disappointing seasons record wise.

    A year after starting a junior varsity soccer program from the ground up at Henry County High School, the girls’ team is preparing to move on to the next level.

    For the first time in school history, a varsity soccer game was played Tuesday night when the Ladycats traveled to Whitefield Academy, and the memory-making Cats will follow with a complete 11-game schedule and post-season action.
