    Growing up in Eminence, Jason Baird played sports from the time he was a small child, but he probably never expected to play even a small role in the Olympics. That all changed when he was selected to be an escort for the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay as it wound its way through Kentucky on route to Atlanta.

  • Another season just around the corner

    It seems almost impossible that the high school fall sports season is almost underway, but high school teams across the county started practices this week in preparation for the 2016 season.

    For many of the coaches of the local football, soccer, volleyball, golf and cross country teams, it is a time of optimism, anticipation, preparation, anxiety and questions.

    Questions range from personnel decisions to formations to what new faces will show up to when are the new uniforms coming?

    Team Jeanie softball tourney

    The Team Jeanie softball tournament and benefit day will be held at Harry Hill Park Saturday, July 30, from 12 to 10 p.m.

    Contact Dee Dee New to register for the softball tournament at 655-0883.

    Proceeds from the tournament and benefit day will go to help pay for a wheelchair van for Jeanie Miskell who has multiple sclerosis.

  • Henry County Fair motor sports action

    The Henry County Fair offered motor sports action of all kinds last week. Whether you are a fan of dirt drag racing, mud bogs, tractor pulls or demolition derbies, there was plenty of mud, sweat and cheers to go around.

  • EDC to benefit from July 16 fund raiser

    The Pleasureville Farmers Market and Country Store will host an auction and art show Saturday, July 16, according to a news release.
    Two special events include:
    • An auction fundraiser to benefit the Pleasureville Economic Development Council will begin at 9 a.m. in the Pleasureville City Hall parking lot.
    Auction items include: antique furniture, power tools, lawn mowers, jewelry, patio furniture, plant stands, outdoor books and Thoroughbred handicapping books.
