  • Supporting our troops and honoring their sacrifice

Memorial Day is a time to honor our soldiers and remember those who have fallen.  This day also comes at the end of National Military Appreciation Month, an appropriate occasion to reflect on national unity and lend our support to those in uniform.  Although some have tried to paint a picture of the “one percent” over the last several months, there is a real one percent prepared to protect us all: the United States Armed Forces.

  • Positive trends worth noting in Kentucky education

For several years now, the General Assembly’s Office of Education Accountability has compiled an annual report that gives us a big-picture look at how our students compare to their counterparts in other states.

While there are persistent challenges, many tied to poverty, the report has some positive trends certainly worth noting.

  • Bathrooms should be open during mobile food pantry

I am writing in regards to the Mobile Food Pantry that comes to the Henry County Fairgrounds the fourth Wednesday of every month.

I think this is a great service that is being offered to the less fortunate citizens of Henry County. But there aren’t any restroom facilities available to use. I am a handicapped senior that has bladder issues. I know it is a long time that everyone has to sit in their cars to wait and get the food. If you don’t get there early to get a good place in line, you don’t get hardly any food.

  • Health Department lease was joint effort

As I read Brad Bowman’s article: HCSO’s New Office Open June 4th, last week, I was surprised to see a glaring omission. The move was, in part, due to the Henry County Health Department.   However The Henry County Health Department Board was not mentioned in the article.

  • Vote Lyle for Circuit Court Clerk

A couple of months ago my truck needed some mechanical repairs. I found an experienced mechanic to do the work. Following Ike I needed a new roof on my house. I sought out a qualified roofer to install the new roof.

That is the way most of us think. We want the most qualified doctor, lawyer, or electrician to do the things we need performed. We appreciate experience.

  • Yeary: Vote Hawkins for Circuit Court Clerk

One of the major issues least talked about in the Henry County Circuit Court Clerk’s race is our courthouse.

The Administrative Office of the Courts has declared that the Henry County courthouse is one of two in the state most in need of replacement. Our courthouse is also one of the oldest and most beautiful, built in 1877, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

  • Payton: Vote Lyle for Circuit Court Clerk

As a resident of Henry County, it is my pleasure to support Nick Hawkins as our next Circuit Court Clerk.

Nick is not only a great family man, but one the most active Henry County residents. He is very involved with our youth and extremely knowledgeable about the resources available. I am impressed with how quickly this young man has been able to establish himself in Henry County.

  • Thanks for help with Bill Downey benefit

On behalf of Bill and his family, we want to thank everyone for helping make the benefit a success.

We would like to thank all of you who donated food, items for the silent auction and monetary contributions.

A very special thanks goes out to Fred Porter and Cropper Baptist Church for the use of their facility.

Last, but by no means least, to the Better Daze Band, Thomas Hood, and Shades of Pink for their awesome music, which was enjoyed by all.

The money raised was much needed and greatly appreciated by the Downey family.

  • Thank you for support of Derby fundraiser

Thank you for all of your support for the Henry County Senior Citizens Derby Eve Fundraiser.

To everyone who worked, came, or donated items, a big thank you. We had another successful year because of you.

  • Gina Lyle for circuit court clerk

As most know, election day is just around the corner. Gina Lyle and Nick Hawkins are running for circuit court clerk. Both are great people and have great personalities. But I believe Lyle is the best candidate.

I have nothing against Hawkins, and he is a great guy. But experience wins the race. Lyle has a total of 24 years under her belt. I feel that no one is more capable of running the clerk’s office than her.
