  • Frustrated with HCYS

    I can’t help from being let down once again by the Henry County Youth Soccer. Another season of refs not being on time or knowing all the rules of the game. Many games our coach or a parent had to ref a game. Last week our game was scheduled for 10 a.m. The ref shows up and the game started at 10:16. The game was over by 10:47, with halftime included in this 31 minute span. I played soccer for about 18 years and I know that Henry County is still somewhat new to the game, but it can be run a lot better. I know I’m not the only parent that is throwing a gripe about this.

  • With regard to “Judges: New Space is Needed”

    I am very sympathetic to our Judges, and court workers, in their desire for a new court house. These officials work very hard and operate in less than ideal conditions. They make a good case for improved working conditions and, of course, everyone would like a new office. Unfortunately for these hard-working people, money is the issue. Yes, the money is coming from another government entity but we all pay for everything government does.

  • Alcohol by the drink sales would drive economic development in Henry County

    Henry County Fiscal Court is in pursuit of Economic Development for job creation and economic growth. Proper economic development requires good planning and community involvement to allow growth which is desired by its citizens.

  • Vote no on by the drink

    Vote no to the by-the-drink for the Henry County Recreational Corporation.  This is not the place for alcohol by the drink or the answer for increasing revenue.  This issue has been brought before the membership on a number of occasions and was unsuccessful in moving forward until now.  The disadvantages outweigh the advantages when you look at the total picture.

  • Vote yes on by the drink

    The Henry County Country Club was established in 1966 and opened in 1967. The facility was built as an affordable place of recreation for the Henry County community. The club offered golf, tennis, swimming and fishing then, and still does today. The club boasts one of the best golf courses in the state of Kentucky. Thousands and thousands of dollars have been brought into Henry County through tourism from the golf course.

  • Where is discussion on allowing alcohol beverages throughout county?

    In recent days my wife and I signed the petition to bring a vote to the people of this County on whether they would like to offer the alcoholic beverages in establishments such as restaurants. It was to my surprise that the petition in a local business was the first I had heard or seen the issue.

    Where is the discussion? Where is the debate? Where are the opinions? I would think the people of this community would welcome the opportunity to provide its leaders with direction by allowing such a vote, for or against.

  • Tourism is key for Kentucky

    When Kentucky first got into the tourism business, James Monroe was on track to become the country’s fifth president, Daniel Boone was still alive and a 7-year-old boy named Abraham Lincoln was preparing to move from here to Indiana with his family.

    Many things have changed since 1816, of course, but that first attraction – Mammoth Cave – still remains one of the most-visited places in Kentucky, with more than 400,000 people traveling there each year.
