Today's Opinions

  • Excercise your right, do your duty

Alright, Henry County, it’s time. Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., the doors open for you to exercise your right to vote.

It’s a right we have that many in this world do not. Too few of us exercise it. Residents in some countries risk life and limb to cast their first votes.

It’s right we are so often told, albeit via political rhetoric, that men and women in uniform died to protect. A right they’ve died to give to others.

  • Let’s talk about child abuse

At this busy time of year with elections, the holidays, etc. there is something I want to talk about.  Child abuse — harsh words, ugly words.  Words I don’t want to think about.

  • Where IS the creative thinking?

I find it amusing that someone who should promote healthy living, does not see the benefit of the new Henry County Recreational and Service Park to our community!

  • Vote Ronnie Stephens for jailer

I am requesting your vote for my son-in-law, Ronnie Stephens for jailer. He has given many hours helping with youth sports activities in the county.

  • Three steps to being a good neighbor

Three good steps to make sure that you don’t explode or go off on your neighbor.

Step one: Make sure that your septic system has been inspected and approved by the health department and was installed by a licensed installer and keep your records.

  • I’ll enjoy the sound of silence today

As I write this, the polls for the 2010 General Election have been open for about seven hours.

I happily did my duty Tuesday morning, casting my vote around 6:45.

I will be so very happy on Wednesday. Not because I’ll be recovering from 18 hours covering the election on Tuesday, but because it will be quiet.

  • Thank you for your support

I want to take this opportunity to thank each person that my team and I came in contact with during my campaign for jailer. I want to thank you for taking time out to answer your door and being cordial to us as we interrupted your ballgame, nap or dinner.

  • Thanks for help with Halloween tunnel

I wanted to thank Perry’s Hardware for their donation of lumber and Southern States of Eminence for their donation of the black plastic to help construct the community Halloween Tunnel at my house at 280 Vernon Avenue in Eminence.
