  • The Local is your community newspaper

Welcome to a free sample of the Henry County Local!

As a courtesy to our residents and as a way to introduce or remind you about our newspaper, we’ve mailed a free Local to every residence in the county.

  • Be who you are wherever God sends you

“Holy, holy, holy,” cried the heavenly beings called Seraphim. With that clarion call to worship, Isaiah, not yet a prophet, sensed he was in trouble. “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips...”

  • Kentucky Storm is brewing in Henry County

The Kentucky Storm Football Team, LLC, a member of the Kentucky Football League, is playing its first of five home football games at Henry County Recreational and Service Park in New Castle on June 6.

  • Farm-fresh egg for sale, $44

I am not a chicken whisperer.

I am slowly coming to terms with this realization.

When we decided to add a few laying hens to our small farm, we got busy with preparations. We purchased a very nice kit coop and placed it in a fenced in chicken run. We purchased a waterer, feeder and quality feed. Then I did what I normally do when we embark on some new farming adventure.

  • Kentucky's budget projects revenue surplus

After weathering several tough budget cycles, the state is on track to end the current fiscal year next month with much better news to report.

Two weeks ago, the Office of State Budget Director said that April’s General Fund receipts – which drive the budget – brought in a little more than $1 billion, a high-water mark that had never happened in a single month before.

  • In honor of John Hoffman

In honor and in memory of John Hoffman, an outdoors enthusiast, writer and former contributor to the Henry County Local, we’d like to re-run one of his columns, printed in the early fall of 1999.

While Hoffman wrote about all things outdoors from hunting and fishing to ammo and gun recommendations, he seemed to have a special affinity for bird hunting and fishing. And he relished sharing his knowledge and experiences with others.

  • Follow-up to theft

This is a comment on last week’s, Message to Thieves.

The roll of wire mesh with straw that was taken (stolen) from the Defoe Cemetery.

The roll was returned to a cemetery board member.  The board member says the person who returned it did not do so because he/she read of it in the Local,  maybe his/her conscience got to bothering him/her.
