  • Thank your for help with Light Up New Castle

Light up New Castle is now a memory. We had some small glitches but it was a success overall. This is the first year in many years that the festival committee was in charge of the Light Up festivities. We saw some things that we will do differently next year and some things we want to add next year. I want to thank the following individuals and businesses who helped with this past weekends Light Up.

  • Open your heart to a child

‘Tis the season to give, Christmas time, when we all open our hearts. If you are looking for a way to keep your donations in Henry County and help our children (our future) at the same time, the Henry County CARE Team has a program called Love-A-Child Mentoring that matches children in need of mentoring with adult volunteer mentors.

  • Opening the Eminence Swimming Pool

    Happy Holidays!

  • Don't allow liquor by the drink sales

I just finished reading the article on liquor by the drink sales. If you want to see what will happen to the city just go to Lorain, Ohio. It used to be a nice city until they softened the laws on alcohol sales, then bars started popping up on almost every corner and before too long the crime rate skyrocketed. The economy tanked when they closed the Lorain Ford Plant, but the bar business increased.

  • Keep Harry Hill Park open during the winter months

Many of you may not be aware of it but Harry Hill Park is locked up for the winter.

  • Applause to Judge Executive, Magistrate and Fiscal Court

Many thanks to the Henry County Fiscal Court under the leadership of Judge Executive John Logan Brent and Magistrate Guy Coombs for their recent decision to pass a resolution objecting to an airport in Oldham County being located partially in Henry County which would adversely affect our quality of life, property values and ultimately cost far more than would ever be gained.

  • Too much food, relaxation, turns into no focus

I had the darndest time focusing this weekend. I went through about three different commentaries before I wrote these words..

  • Henry County's generosity is appreciated

Operation Christmas Child collected 1,511 shoe boxes from the greater Henry County area. These shoe boxes were forwarded from the Port Royal UMC Relay Center to the Collection Center in Louisville and from there on the Processing Center in Boone, North Carolina. From there they will be sent to children in disaster relief areas, orphanages, refugee camps and needy areas around the world.

We wish to thank all the churches and individuals who contributed to this wonderful act of generosity.
