    Student seeks Ky. assistance

Dear People of the Great State of Kentucky,

Greetings!  My name is Joaquin and I am a 5th grade student at Salida Elementary School in Salida, California.

  • Patriotic Fest committee says thanks

The New Castle Patriotic Festival Committee would like to thank the following for their generous support of the recently held Patriotic Festival. Without the support of the following individuals and organizations we could not have had such a successful event.

  • Newsprint is alive and well — here’s proof

Despite the doom and gloom predictions that print is dead, community newspapers like the Henry County Local are flourishing.
    But why?
First and foremost, we are the only consistent local media presence in the county. While there are others who pop in and out when “big” news hits, we’re here with our readers week in and week out to bring you a variety of coverage, including the “big” story, and so much more.

  • Women in leadership

If Hillary Clinton is sworn in as president of the United States in January 2017, she will join Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany, and Theresa May, prime minister of the United Kingdom, as one of the leaders of three of the most powerful nations on earth.

We could then proudly say that Thomas Sankara’s statement, “women hold up the other half of the sky,” has literally come true.

  • Harvest offers something for everyone

A tradition that began 17 years ago to celebrate the agricultural roots of Henry County will again take place this weekend.

On Saturday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Henry County Fairgrounds, freinds and neighbors will gather at the Henry County Harvest Showcase to purchase fresh produce, browse local crafts and artwork, eat wonderful food prepared with locally sourced ingredients and be entertained with live music.

  • Much to be proud of in the Commonwealth

When it comes to being home to icons known around the world, few states can compete with Kentucky.

  • Back to School: a handy health and safety checklist

    By Jennifer Grove, Bluegrass Pharmacy

It’s just about that time again: Time to switch from swimsuits to school clothes and from beach bags to backpacks. That’s the easy part.

What about preparing your child to have the healthiest and safest school year possible? Here’s a handy checklist to help.

  • My nephew's reaction to a mugging was the worst

When I attended college at the University of Cincinnati following the path of least resistance to earn my English degree with a minor in journalism, my fourth-floor walkup studio apartment stood just across from the campus in the crowded neighborhood at the corner of Clifton and McMillan streets. It featured a healthy business district that catered to students and fraternity members.
