New Castle hopes to grow movie night

Jeff Thoke, New Castle Main Street Manager, wants people coming back to town at night.

Five nights during this year, Thoke and Charlie Sevier, New Castle City Commissioner, put on a movie night behind the Henry County Courthouse with occasional live music and food. During those events, Thoke rented a projector to put family-friendly movies on a sheet for residents to watch. Now, Thoke hopes the city can be independent, cut renting costs and have a better projector for the public.

The recent removal of a wrought iron fence from around Point Pleasant Cemetery has been a contentious issue for some families who have loved ones buried there.

In the last two weeks, Stanley Clark, sexton, started taking down the more than 100-year-old fence surrounding the cemetery.

911 call ends with murder charge

Kentucky State Police at Post 5 in Campbellsburg took a man into custody early Wednesday morning after he told dispatchers he had outstanding warrants — and he hurt someone who was possibly dead.

Kentucky State Troopers arrested a Pendleton man Tuesday during meth bust in Bedford.

Kentucky State Police received information that meth was being cooked at Estelle Lane in Bedford. Troopers obtained a search warrant and entered the residence and found ingredients allegedly used for meth production and drug paraphernalia.

Nathaniel Townsend, 33, of Pendleton was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine; possession of methamphetamine and meth precursor; possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police also charged Charity Purvis, 34, of Milton and Joseph Turner 38, of Carrollton for the same offenses.

The historic wrought iron fence, surrounding the Point Pleasant Cemetery that is located in a curve on KY 573, was silently removed last week. Its purpose had been to prevent speeding cars and weather related accidents from demolishing the tombstones. There seems to be no one in the community who witnessed it being taken down.

The Henry County Fiscal Court last week passed an amendment to the nepotism ordinance on second reading during a special meeting.

When Henry County Sheriff Danny Cravens made it known that his son would go through the process for a full-time position as a sheriff’s deputy, the issue of nepotism came up in the county’s personnel policy and the ethics ordinance.

For this final article, I want to talk about the county budget. As far as I am concerned, putting the budget together and then monitoring it is the most important responsibility that my office and the magistrates have. There aremore than 210 line items in this year’s $5.9-million budget.

It has long been known that high cholesterol levels are related to higher rates of vascular disease, heart attacks and strokes.
