Fassio doesn’t ask why

Lt. Col. Mark Fassio didn’t feel sorry for himself when, on his birthday in 2012, he learned he had a rare form of cancer.

Fassio — in a demeanor usual to those who know him — never asked why, but why not?

Diagnosis

In May 2012, Fassio went to Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange due to rectal bleeding. Physicians thought Fassio had an inflamed bowel and that an ulcer caused the bleeding and sent him home.

Deterioration from neglect

County cemeteries constantly face the challenges of change and perpetual care.

Similar to  historic homes and buildings, cemeteries and tombstones, the landmarks of a family’s loved ones, can be destroyed, demolished and disappear simply by neglect.

There are an estimated 218 cemeteries throughout Henry County including the larger city cemeteries in Campbellsburg, Eminence, Pleasureville, Port Royal and New Castle.

Even at dusk it was still a bit muggy, and when you looked way down Main Street toward the old school, the air above the pavement shimmered. But the heat of the day was dissipating, becoming bearable again, and the youngster — say about 14 — leaned back against one of the cast iron columns buttressing the storefront of the New Castle Pool Hall, and lit a cigarette. Life was good, and although the kid wasn’t old enough to understand a notion of this sort, he did not have a care in the world.

 Henry County and Eminence residents will have to look for a water oasis somewhere other than Eminence’s Coach D Park.

Eminence Mayor Drane Stephens announced in November that the city would receive a $42,000 match Land and Water grant for a proposed 1,050-square foot water feature to be built near the old pump house in the park.

Henry County High School graduate. Graduated from UofK with a degree in animal science. Works on his family’s farm — established in 1884 and recognized as a historic farm by Ky. Dept of Agriculture and Ky. Heritage Council for being in continuous ownership in same family.

Why animal science?

I always liked working with cattle and that fit the occupation I wanted to go in. We raise beef cattle. I own 113 acres and lease the rest from my grandmother and uncle.

Bucket List for Bonnie

Bonnie Lynn overcame doctors’ expectations when as a child she learned to walk and talk. Now, Lynn hopes to fulfill the expectations of her bucket list and she’s almost halfway there.

Lynn was born with fluid on her brain. Physicians’ didn’t have a positive outlook for Lynn, expecting her to have a life of complications due to her developmental disability similar to Down syndrome.

Boy dies in ATV wreck

An 11-year-old Henry County boy died Thursday, June 6, in an apparent ATV crash.
Henry County Coroner Jimmy Pollard declared Dylan Thurman of Pleasureville dead at the scene.
Preliminary results of the investigation indicated Thurman was operating the ATV on his family’s farm when he crashed and was ejected from the vehicle.
Kentucky State Police Detective Tim Moore is leading the investigation. Henry County EMS and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
