    Paul C. Rankin, age 68 of Bethlehem, died Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville. He was the son of the late Kelley and Lucy Carter Rankin, member of Pleasureville Baptist Church, Pleasureville Masonic Lodge #410 and Gideons International, Henry-Trimble Camp. He was retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

    November is Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month. Pulmonary Hypertension, or PH, is a simplified name for a complex health problem - continuous high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery in the lungs, resulting in an enlarged heart which can also lose its ability to pump. In the U.S. PH affects an estimated 100,000 people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.

    PH is underdiagnosed, as doctors often confuse the symptoms with other health conditions. These symptoms include:

    * shortness of breath

    * fainting

    * dizziness

    * chronic fatigue

  • 6th Annual Operation Henry County...

    Since the War in Iraq started, the support has weakened for our soldiers, especially wounded soldiers who are overseas. I know that our great community can do a lot to help in this matter. The Senior Class of 2008 and I would like to invite you to join us in supporting troops who are serving overseas. This is a special year for us because two of the brigades we are supporting are being led by two Henry County graduates and it is only fitting that we begin this year's soldier drive on Veteran's Day. As with years past, we adopt groups and support them for the entire school year.

    I had the opportunity last week to attend the Veteran's Appreciation Day Ceremony at the Henry County High School. It was great to see such honor given to those who truly deserve recognition. It was a first class program and everyone involved did an outstanding job.

    With more Americans aging, the demand for healthcare services delivered in the home is growing. In fact, this year, more than 11 million Americans will utilize home care services. November is National Home Care Month and we want to celebrate it with these patients and honor all the compassionate caregivers that make a difference everyday for our nation's seniors.

    Last year, the residents of Shelby County were approached from a group of people about the possibility of forming an Airport Authority Board to check into the possibility of locating a regional airport in Shelby County. It does not matter if you were for or against it, I believe all can agree it was presented to the people and the residents spoke - there was not enough support for such an endeavor.

  • Kudos to EPD for a job well done

    I would like to say thanks to Chief Carey Duncan and the entire (Eminence) Police Department for a job well done. Before you came to this town, it was impossible to get any sleep or to even watch T.V on weekends because of the parties, loud music and squealing tires. I had to move my bedroom to the back of the house but that didnt help. Now I can get my rest and feel safe. I've lived here for 30 years. I can honestly say Eminence is a good place to live. Thanks for the good work you do. You put your lives harms way each and everyday to protect and keep us safe.

    Eastern Elementary would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped with our 2007 Fall Festival. From all the businesses who donated food, items for our auction or money, to all of our many volunteers, to all of our parents, wonderful staff and students-thank you. We truly appreciate all of the hard work, dedication, time and support that was extended to us. Henry County is a great place to live and the Eastern Elementary family proves that every day.

  • Lions and bears and ... hot dogs?...

    I now can say I've been through my first Trick or Treat with the Henry County Local.

    And I can honestly say it was some of the most fun I've ever had on Halloween.

    It was, for the most part, non-stop action, but a hoot nonetheless.

    We saw plenty of lions, a few bears, but not many tigers. We saw lots of lady bugs, several Hannah Montannas, and more than a few zombies. We even had a couple of kangaroos hopping around our office. We only had one banana and a couple of doctors.

  • 40th Anniversary - Tragic Crash...

    Nov. 3, 2007 will mark the 40th Anniversary of a tragic 1967 auto accident that took the lives of a Cropper woman, Mrs. Fount Dearner, and her daughter, Mrs. Anna D. Kendall, who were traveling to Danville for a wedding.

    On that fateful day, just after 6 o'clock in the evening and shortly after a rain shower, Mrs. Kendall, her husband, Stanley, and their 9-year-old son, Stanley Dale Kendall, had picked up Mrs. Dearner in Cropper intending to proceed to Danville to attend the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Kendall's oldest son, Wayne, to Miss Ethel Chumbley.

    For those of you who visit our Web site, what I'm about to say won't necessarily be news.

    Two weeks ago, we launched a new Web platform that allows us to more easily update our Web-site. It's all part of an initiative by Landmark Community Newspapers, Inc., to streamline the process of updating the Web sites of its member newspapers.

    But, in addition to making updating the Web easier for those of us not blessed with a Web staff, the new platform could, eventually, offer more interesting options to our readers, and of course, our advertisers.

    The Patrick Henry Award Dinner is Nov. 10 at 6:30 at the Henry County Middle School. Any who wish to honor John W. Smith. Jr. for his tremendous service to not only the education of the children in the Henry County Public Schools, but also his commitment to our communities are invited to attend. Tickets are $20 for a delicious dinner prepared by the Henry Co. Public School Catering Staff. Sliced turkey breast with dressing and gravy as well as roasted round of beef ajus' with vegetables, salad and dessert will make a great Saturday evening dinner.
