Looking back at the 2017 high school spring sports, it is easy to pick the team with the best performance.

The Henry County Lady Cats won their third consecutive 31st District title with a thrilling 10-9 win over Owen County in the district tournament finals. That win marked the Lady Cats’ 25th consecutive district win over three seasons.

The last time Henry County’s softball team lost a game to a district opponent was to Gallatin County in the 2014 district finals.

  • Even the Cubbies go through...

Baseball can be a funny game. I don’t mean “haha” funny. I mean strange, fickle, weird and exasperating.

Good teams can go through stretches where nothing seems to go right. Take the Chicago Cubs for instance. They sit at two games below .500 so far this year with practically the same team that won the World Series last year. They are only third in their division behind second place St. Louis and first place Milwaukee.

Anderson’s Bailey Curry, the KHSAA’s all-time home run leader, launched the first pitch she saw over the right centerfield fence. From there, the Lady Bearcats went on to score 20 more runs to defeat Henry County 20-0 in four innings.

Anderson County pounded out 18 hits and took advantage of six errors by the Lady Cats.

The 31st District softball championship between the Henry County Lady Cats and the Owen County Lady Rebels had a little bit of every thing Friday at Gallatin County High School. It had good hitting, good defensive plays, shaky defensive plays and in the end it had a couple of dramatic plays.

Owen County took the lead in the top of the first with one run but it could have been worse for the Lady Cats.

  • Rebels blank Wildcats in...

    sports@hclocal

The Henry County Wildcats took on the Owen County Rebels at Gallatin County in the 31st District tournament May 23rd and could not overcome a strong pitching performance from the Rebels’ Cameron McAnally.

McAnally also did the only damage needed at the plate with an RBI double in the second inning.

Henry County managed only three hits and four base runners for the game as McAnally struck out 13 batters.

Jaydon Berry, who started on the mound for the Wildcats, was almost as sharp as McAnally after a rocky start.
