  • Cats dominate Shawe; fall to...

    Henry County 63 Shawe 50

The Wildcats started slow on Saturday night against visiting Shawe High School of Madison, but turned the game around in the second quarter and then pulled away in the fourth quarter to get a 13-point victory.

Brad West got hot from 3-point range, with 5 long-range bombs, and led the Cats with 18 points. Dakota Estes hit one 3-pointer as the Cats had a season high six 3-pointers in the game.

  • 4 Henry Countians competing for...

Four young men from Henry County are competing at the collegiate level in a sport that doesn’t get much sports page coverage — shotgun. Jacob Yount, Connor Toole, Jordan Campbell and Garrett Black all are competing on the University of Kentucky shotgun team in their freshman year in Lexington.

All four competed for several years on the highly successful Henry County 4-H youth shooting teams and now they have taken the skills they learned as boys to the next level.

  • Lady Cats struggle during...

  • Staring off on the right foot

The Henry County Wildcats opened their season in the best of ways: with a win at home.

The Cats opened their season on Tuesday, Nov. 27, against the North Bullitt Eagles, with a 59-49 win.

The game featured several big runs by both teams but the Cats, despite inconsistent play, were able to pull out the 10-point victory because of dominate rebounding and clutch foul shooting down the stretch.

The Cats opened the game with a 14-3 run.

  • Braves scalp Warriors

The Eminence Warriors opened the season at home against the Grant County Braves and found the Braves’ pressure a little more than they could handle as Grant County forced the Warriors into about 30 turnovers on their way to a 68-51 victory.

The Warriors scored the game’s first five points on a 3-pointer by Jalen Dixie and two free throws by Brandon Mitchell, before Grant County began to turn up the pressure. Grant then reeled off 12 points in a row and never looked back as they stretched the lead to 22-11 by the end of the first period.

  • Jitter, foul trouble mar opener

The Eminence Warriors girls’ basketball team opened the season at home against Paris on Saturday evening and fell to the Lady Hounds 58-33.

For the Warriors it was a matter of first game jitters to open the game and foul trouble in the 4th period that doomed them to defeat.

The Lady Hounds opened a 14-4 lead in the first period on the strength of their best player, Alexis Tye, who had 8 points in the opening frame.
