  • McKee officiates third Olympic...

    Henry Countian Jim McKee returned earlier this month from another stint as an official at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials.

    McKee probably never  dreamed he would be involved with track at its highest level when his children began their high school careers in the throwing events in the mid-1990s.

  • Hardly relaxing, but a lot of fun



    My wife and I have a tendency to think big when it comes to vacations. We have been on some great trips over the years, but we always come home exhausted and vowing to a take a “real vacation” the next year.

  • Krebs named Wildcats coach

    Henry County Country Club golf professional Cory Krebs has been named the new golf coach for the Henry County High School boys’ golf team.
    He will be assisted by Steve Allen.
    Krebs, who has been in the position at the local club since January, has coached numerous young golfers, but this will be his first experience as the coach of a high school team.
    As a youngster, he played on the Musselman-Dunne and Pepsi Junior golf tours. He played high school golf at St. Xavier in Louisville.

  • Competitive summer



    MacKenzie Peyton has been hard at it competing in big golf tournaments for young ladies this summer.

    She has played in six big events so far this season and now is ready for the high school season to begin. She will be looking to return to the state tournament for a third consecutive year.

  • Henry County Reds finish second...


    The Reds of the Major Division (11- to 12-year-olds) of Little League baseball are a team of Henry County youngsters who played in a Shelbyville league this year. Henry didn’t have enough teams for a full league.

    This group of players was coached by Randy Berry of Port Royal and went through the regular season undefeated at 12-0.

  • Coaches host carnival event to...

    The Henry County fall practice season is officially under way.

    The youth, middle and high school football teams started the season with practices held Sunday afternoon at the HCHS football stadium during the first Henry County Kickoff Carnival. The volleyball and cross country teams were also represented at the event.

    The fun began at 1 p.m. with inflatables from Backyard Bounce and carnival booths sponsored by the teams.

  • HC Shooting Sports wins big at...

    On June  23, members of the Henry County Shooting Sports 4H team competed in the Fleming County Shooting Sports Invitational.  All participating members brought home first, second, or third place awards.

    In the 9- to 11-year-old age division, Hayley Hosey swept the competition by placing first in all categories she entered.  Hayley earned first place in air pistol, first place target archery with a score of 69 and 7 X’s, and first place bowhunter class scoring 67 and 3 X’s.

  • It’s Tour de Henry time



    Just when my dedication to cycling was waning a bit, the world’s greatest cycling race got underway recently.

    The Tour de France started June 30 with a 4-mile prologue in Belgium. The prologue is a time trial and kickoff celebration all rolled into one. Each rider leaves the starting gate at 3-minute intervals and tears through the course at breakneck speeds.

  • Stivers to lead Lady Cats

    Stivers named head girls’ soccer coach at Henry County High School

    Brandi Stivers has been named to replace Shannon Snider as the girls’ soccer coach at Henry County High School. Stivers — who works as an assistant to the Henry County Public Schools financial officer — will be in her first coaching position outside of youth clinics.

  • Henry County to kick off fall...

    The fall sports teams at Henry County High School have found an answer to Midnight Madness: called the Kickoff Carnival and it will be 1 to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 16, at the Henry County High School football stadium.

    The Kickoff Carnival will include inflatables from Backyard Bounce, games, concessions and fun for the entire family.

    Affordable Signs and Apparel will sell team t-shirts. The football team will host an open practice that day and other fall sports teams as well as youth football teams have been invited to participate.
