  • Black becomes first HC golfer to...

    Henry County High School freshman Garrett Black became the first golfer in school history to play in the boys’ All “A” Classic State Golf Tournament when he took on some of the best small-school golfers from across the state at the Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond Saturday.

    Black had to deal with a hot and muggy day, along with a very tough course, and finished with a 99 for 18 hilly holes. His goal was to break 100, which he bettered by one stroke during a slow-played tournament.

  • Warriors hold off Trimble in a...

    In what Steve Frommeyer dubbed a “bizarre and unusual” fourth quarter, Eminence was able to hold off Trimble County down the stretch for a slim 26-24 victory, which gave the Warriors a perfect 3-0 start to the football season.

  • Girls' soccer team cruises...

    The Henry County Ladycats celebrated their biggest soccer win in school history last Thursday against Waggener, scoring their first goal less than a minute into the game and cruising in for a 10-1 unchallenged victory.

    The Ladycats opened their inaugural varsity season with a 2-1 win over Whitefield Academy Aug. 19, then followed with losses to Spencer County (2-1) Aug. 25, Jeffersontown (4-3) Aug. 28 and Kentucky Country Day (3-1) last Tuesday. The Waggener win left them at 2-3 heading into this week.

  • Cats play best half of season...

    For the Henry County High School boys’ soccer team, the first 40 minutes against Whitefield Academy last Monday was its best of the season. The host Wildcats played stall-ball to slow down the high-scoring Whitefield squad and conserve energy, while allowing just one goal.

  • EHS Warriors compete at Rumble...

    As expected, the Eminence runners were about a minute slower at Saturday’s Rumble in the Jungle than they were at Tuesday’s Henry County meet at Harry Hill Park. Due to heat-related illnesses, Eminence coach Scott McClamroch said, the Oldham County EMS responded to 74 runners in Goshen, which led to the slower-than-normal times for the Warriors.

  • Cats showing improvements on...

    Twice the Henry County cross country team took the course for races last week, and both times the Cats, who have an unpredictable road ahead with a roster full of new runners, improved as the season continues to progress. Henry hosted a meet at Harry Hill Park last Tuesday, then competed in the Rumble in the Jungle Saturday, hosted by North Oldham High School.

  • Friends For Michael Golf Scramble

    Under near-perfect weather at the Henry County Country Club last Wednesday, the locally-based Friends For Michael organization hosted its annual FFM Golf Scramble & Celebrity Auction.

    The event attracted 36 four-person teams, including the winning foursome from Toyota of Georgetown, and numerous celebrities. Not counting money raised from sponsors, FFM was able to make around $12,000, president and founder Cindy Norton said afterwards.

  • Where were you during 9/11...

    Has it really been seven years already?

    Physically, I did not feel the attacks of 9/11. My eyes didn’t see the planes crash. My legs didn’t tremble along with the shake of the ground. My heart didn’t almost thump out of my chest as I sprinted for cover. I didn’t hear the buildings fall to the ground. And I never had to make any life-saving choices that day.
