  • Warriors whip Wolverines

The Eminence Warriors head into the final week of the regular season on a roll. After a big district win against Carroll County, the Warriors went to Louisville, twice, and came away with victories each time against Walden and Evangel.

The 76-51 win over Evangel was the Warrior’s fourth in a row, matching their longest streak of the season.

Against Evangel, the Warriors followed a blueprint that was successful against Walden, and they jumped out to an early 20-0 lead.

  • Lady Cats show grit, win two

The Henry County Lady Cats got two wins last week to get some momentum going heading into the final week of the season. The Lady Cats use disciplined play in the fourth quarter of both games to pull off come-from-behind wins.

After leading the Fairdale Lady Bulldogs for much of the game, the Henry County Lady Cats found themselves down by six points about halfway through the fourth period on Feb. 5th.

  • Warriors down KSD, 59-6

The Eminence girls hosted the Kentucky School for the Deaf Thursday and came away with a 53-point victory.

The Warriors were too much for the Colonels, dominating all phases of the game.

The Colonels scored the opening bucket of the game and then struggled to find the goal the rest of the game as the Warriors went on a 23-0 run for the remainder of the opening period.

  • Snowy odds and ends

After an extremely busy week of high school basketball last week I was looking forward to a lighter schedule of games for this week’s issue.

Six games seemed much more manageable and I was looking forward to giving each game a little more coverage. When there are 11 games on the schedule as there was last week it’s hard to do them all justice.

But then Mother Nature decided to give us just enough snow over the weekend to cancel or postpone three of those games. That left me with the prospect of a very sparse issue for this week.

  • 'What they're good at...

In a game rescheduled because of snow, the Henry County Lady Cats fell to Gallatin County, 87-39.

Gallatin County was hot from the start, putting up 34 points in the first quarter on 15-of-17 shooting, including three 3-pointers.

“They started off really hot,” Henry County coach Todd Gilley said. “If we made any small mistake on the defensive end, they took advantage and hit a jump shot. They attacked very quickly and even though our girls were back on defense, they attacked before we could set our defense.”

  • Third Quarter's the Charm

The third quarter’s the charm for the Eminence Warriors.

In games against Williamstown and Carroll County, the Warriors outscored their opponents by wide margins in the third period to blitz both opponents.

Against Carroll County, the Warriors jumped out to a 6-1 lead as Jalen Dixie hit consecutive 3-pointers on the Warriors first two possessions.

  • Warriors fall to Lady Tigers

With just 8 players available, the Eminence girls basketball team was shorthanded as they traveled to Bardstown Monday.

The Warriors fell to the Lady Tigers, 55-14; thanks in part to a decisive, second-quarter run.

With such a short roster, the Warriors were faced with the prospect of seeing pressure defense from the outset. Bardstown’s pressure was too much as turnovers piled up for EHS.
