  • It’s Tour de Henry time

Just when my dedication to cycling was waning a bit, the world’s greatest cycling race got underway recently.

The Tour de France started June 30 with a 4-mile prologue in Belgium. The prologue is a time trial and kickoff celebration all rolled into one. Each rider leaves the starting gate at 3-minute intervals and tears through the course at breakneck speeds.

  • Saluting youth sports coaches

Today marks one month on the new job for me. I have to say that it has been an awesome experience, so far. My co-workers have made the transition from education to journalism easier. They have been great in helping me figure this gig out.

  • Living the wild life

Joe Guthrie grew up in Drennon Springs living like many rural kids do. He hunted, fished and hiked on and around his parents’ farm and along Drennon Creek.

That rural background led him to dedicate his life to preserving wilderness areas and the species that inhabit them.

In his youth, Guthrie played a variety of sports including football, baseball, track and cross-country.

  • Michels takes the lead on cross...

Victoria Michels will be the next head cross country coach at Henry County High School.

  • One is the loneliest number

Scoring is up in the world’s most popular tournament this year. There have been stunning moves and scores, plus drama on and off the playing surface. I have watched as much of it as I can but work gets in the way and I’ve missed some great games.
No, I’m not talking NBA playoffs.
