  • Ladycats play in premier...

    The Henry County Ladycats didn't get as many wins as they would have liked at the Sports Warehouse Classic - the premier tournament in the state, held at Owensboro Catholic High School over the weekend - but it wasn't a complete disappointed either.

    The Cats earned one win against "very tough" opponents, put themselves in position to win a few more games and, more importantly, improved their swing while facing some overpowering pitchers.

  • Trying times for Warriors

    The Eminence Warriors made history on the baseball diamond last Monday night - though it's not the kind they hope will land them a spot on the ESPN highlight show.

    In case you haven't heard, the Warriors took a lopsided 58-0 loss to Anderson County, which broke the Kentucky high school record for most runs scored in a single game, passing Powell County's 44 from 1986. And the 33 runs Eminence allowed during the first inning put Anderson at No. 2 in that category, trailing Middlesboro's 36 from 1984.

  • Henry girls finish second, boys...

    Jamie Graham won the high jump and triple jump, Brittany Crawford won the 100-meter hurdles, Jalie Adams won the shot put, and the host Henry County girls' team came away with a surprising second-place finish at the Wildcat Relays Saturday.

    On a chilly and windy day, Henry left with four first-place finishes and seven second-place finishes, which was good enough to earn the girls' team 104 points and runners-up honors, and the boys' team 36 points and seventh overall.

  • Eminence's first win a big...

    After opening the season with three losses, the Eminence softball team got on the winning side of things in a big way Saturday afternoon, easily rolling past Caverna High School, 19-0.

  • Wildcats riding a four-game...

    In their first full week of baseball games due to the inconsistent and unpredictable weather, the Henry County Wildcats are riding a four-game winning streak.

    During the Male Spring Break Tournament, the Cats lost to Male (5-1) last Monday, rolled past Muhlenberg South (9-1) Tuesday and defeated Seneca (5-1) Wednesday. They followed that with two wins in a double-header with Villa Madonna Saturday (5-2 and 16-0), which left them at 6-2 overall and on an upswing heading into this week.

  • Ladycats earn first win in...

    Henry County's first home game of the season started with question marks and ended with a lopsided finish.

    The Ladycats, coming off a 24-17 record last spring and losing their first two games this season, wasted no time in putting away Carroll County last Monday night, and stretched their advantage to 14-0 by the time the teams shook hands after the game. The win left the Cats at 1-2 overall, 1-0 in district play, and in the driver's seat for their third straight 31st District title.

  • It's youth versus...

    In Eminence's first softball game of this season, Shelby County had a slugfest while the Lady Warriors struggled on both sides of the ball, resulting in a 16-0 win for Shelby after just three innings of play.

    It was the fourth game of the season for the Lady Rockets, who defeated Spencer County (15-0) and Butler (5-0), and lost to Scott County (5-3). Meanwhile, the weather kept the Lady Warriors off the field until they met the tough Shelby squad last Tuesday night in Shelbyville.

  • Cats host All-Comers track meet

    Led by three first-place finishes from senior Larry Farmer, along with a pair of first from both Jamie Graham and Brittany Crawford, the Henry County track team hosted the Henry County All-Comers last Tuesday afternoon.

    Farmer won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes and 15 seconds, the 1,600-meter run in 5:15 and completed a rare trifecta with triple jump win of 35 feet and 1.5 inches. Meanwhile, Graham won the high jump (4-06) and the triple jump (25-00), while Crawford won both the 100-meter hurdles (16.6) and the 300-meter hurdles (57.3).

  • Wildcats progressing, but still...

    Still waiting on one big hit to get everyone's confidence up to par, the Henry County baseball team took its first defeat of the season at Spencer County last Wednesday night, 3-2.

    The loss goes along with Henry's wins over Trimble County (5-1) and Model High School (5-0) the week before, which gives the Wildcats a 2-1 start to the unpredictable season.

  • Hoopla comes to an end with...

    Boy, I'm glad that's over.

    If you see me sprinting from light pole to light pole through town, don't worry, I'm just trying to avoid being seen after this year's Henry Hoopla contest. It's become an annual tradition for me though - filling out my bracket with high hopes, letting everyone in the community know who's going to win, then slowly backpedaling down the list until I hit close to rock bottom. Usually by this time, shortly after the final weekend of games, I'm a bit embarrassed to leave the office.
