  • Footballers follow in coach...

    After leading the Henry County Wildcats to one of their best football seasons in recent memory, seniors Cari Dunaway and Travis McClanahan will take their game to the next level. The duo, which played both ways for the Cats, signed to play for Campbellsville University next fall, following in head coach Chris Engstrand's footsteps.

  • Mini football camp back in...

    For the second year in a row, the Pleasureville Colts' football team - part of the Henry County Youth Football League - will hold a mini camp each Saturday in April.

    The camp, which is free to the public and open to first through sixth graders that plan on playing for the Colts this upcoming HCYFL season, will be held every Saturday at the Pleasureville Firehouse from 9 to 11 a.m.

    "It's a way to get kids out and interested in football," Eastern coach Jason Warner said. "I picked up seven kids from doing it last year so I turned it into an annual thing."

  • Semifinals and finals pushed...

    Because of delays in the girls' 8th Region tournament, which pushed its championship game to this past Monday at Shelby County High School, the boys' 8th Region tournament semifinals and finals have been moved back a day at Henry County High School as well.

    Shelby played South Oldham Tuesday in the first semifinal while Gallatin County played North Oldham in the second. The winners of those two games will meet for the regional title, and a chance to move on to the Boys' Sweet 16 state tournament, Wednesday at 7 p.m.

  • Anderson 'has its way...

    The Eminence Warriors basketball season came to a screeching halt last Tuesday night in the 30th District tournament, losing to powerhouse Anderson County in opening-round action inside Spencer County High School's gym, 77-28.

    For the Warriors, who won just two games during the regular season, it wasnt much of a contest as they struggled against the Bearcats from the get go and lost by 49 points.

  • Owen County proves too much for...

    The Henry County Ladycats bowed out of the 31st District tournament in the opening round last Tuesday night, but they got crucial experience with all of their players coming back minus senior Jean-Anne Moore. Owen County, who hosted the tournament, jumped out to an 11-3 lead after the first quarter and pulled away to a convincing 56-36 win.

  • Saying goodbye to seniors

    If not for two major injuries, things might have been a tad different for Joey Pollard. After all, Henry County's off-and-on starting guard during the previous four seasons had his first ACL tear as a sophomore and another tear as a junior.

    With injuries like those, you cant question the fact that Pollard could have had a more successful high school career. The questions come into play when thinking about how much more successful it would have been.

  • EHS archery heading back to state

    Placing third at the Region 3 tournament on Feb. 18 in Bullitt County, the Eminence archery team has now qualified for the Archery State Championships for the second year in a row.

    The squad - composed of two juniors, two sophomores, one freshman and 13 middle schoolers - is in its third year of competition and is already making a name for itself at the regional and state levels.

    "I was really proud of our kids," coach Dewayne Douglas said. "That (advancing to state) was our goal going in."

  • Cats dig early hole in opening-...

    The Henry County Wildcats dug an early hole against Gallatin County in the opening round of the 31st District tournament last Wednesday night, which proved too deep for the Cats to dig out of despite a few second-half spurts.

    In the end, Henry took a 59-40 loss to conclude its season at 7-19, while Gallatin improved to 21-7 and went on to win its third straight district title.

    Joey Pollard put Henry on the scoreboard first with a driving layup less than 15 seconds into the game, but Gallatin scored at the other end, took the lead a few plays later and never trailed again.
