  • Promising seasons

    Sit back, relax, chill for a little while. From the looks of things, Eminence and Henry County fans will have plenty to stand up and cheer about when the lights come on Friday nights.

    Following the easy opening-season victories over the weekend, a lot of questions were answered that are brought with unpredictable starts to always unpredictable football seasons. Most of those answers were in favor of the Warriors and Wildcats.

  • Henry County dominates in first...

    Following Henry Countys 40-0 victory over Ludlow High School late Saturday night, the Wildcats collected the Henry County Dairy Queen Bowl trophy and hoisted it into the air at midfield.

    If this season opener was any indication of the direction Henrys football program is headed during the next 10-plus weeks, it should be a year full of feel-good moments for the Wildcats, who are coming off one of their best seasons in school history.

  • Soccer players jump start season

    The opening game of the Henry County girls’ soccer program went near perfect for the visiting Ladycats as they came away with a 2-1 win over Whitefield Academy in the first varsity soccer game in school history.

  • Ladycats start volleyball season...

    After their first three matches on the volleyball court, the Henry County Ladycats entered this week with a 2-1 early-season mark. The Ladycats opened the season with a win over Gallatin County Aug. 12, lost to Anderson County Aug. 14 and defeated Carroll County Aug. 19.

  • HCYFL Results

    New Castle 19, Eminence 6: The New Castle Chiefs opened their 2008 Henry County Youth Football League campaign with a 19-6 win over the Eminence Redskins in the varsity division (fifth and sixth graders) Aug. 16. The Chiefs accumulated 297 offensive yards while Ethan Tuggle led the defense with seven tackles.

  • H.S. football season opens this...

    High school teams across Kentucky will open the 2008 football season this weekend, including Eminence and Henry County. Both county teams will play at home with EHS opening against Beth Haven Friday night and HCHS opening against Ludlow Saturday night.

    For Eminence, the Warriors look to get a jump start to their second season since making the switch from eight-man to 11-man playoffs. Last year, they finished with a 5-6 record, advanced to the Class A State Playoffs for the first time and lost to Frankfort in the opening round.

    The Henry County boys’ golf team juggled its lineup last week, losing two players and picking up another to leave the young but improving squad with eight golfers on its roster as the season continues.

    After 17 days of non-stop action, the 2008 Beijing Olympics came to a halt with the final event finishing up just three days ago. Although I was a little leary of how these Olympics would play out, I’ll have to say I was highly impressed.

    Henry County had a tough time against Waggener last Thursday in the first boys’ soccer game in school history, losing 7-0 to one of the top teams in the state. It was a challenging test for the Wildcats for their first time on the field in an official game, but one they passed despite the lopsided score, coach Jay Dunavin said.
