  • Sports briefs for Sept. 21, 2016

    The Bengals got off to a slow start but turned it on in the second quarter to lead 27-0 at halftime.
    Traven McFarland led the offensive attack with two touchdowns and converted two extra points. Ray Matthews had a touchdown and an extra point, as did Dylan Gallagher. Isaac Abney also got in on the scoring with a touchdown run.

  • Lady Cats beat Carroll

    The Henry County Lady Cats started an important stretch of their season last week with the first two district seeding games at Gallatin County and Carroll County. The Lady Cats lost to Gallatin 2-0 on Sept. 13 then defeated Carroll by the same score two nights later.
    The game against Gallatin County was scoreless at halftime, but the Lady Wildcats were able to score midway through the second half on a breakaway by Shelby Ackermann after a long kick downfield bounced over the head of the Henry County defenders.

  • Warriors defeat Carroll in...

    The Eminence Warriors traveled to Carrollton Thursday for their second district matchup of the season with the Lady Panthers and came away with a 3-0 win.
    When the teams met at Eminence on Aug. 25, the Warriors lost a 3-2 heartbreaker. This time the Warriors finished it off quickly.
    They won the first set 31-29 as both teams traded points throughout.
    The second set was also close but the Warriors put together a string of points late in the set to get some breathing room and went on to win 25-22. The Warriors won the third set to close out the match by the same score, 25-22.

  • Wildcats defeat Gallatin; fall...

    The Henry County Wildcats soccer team traveled to Warsaw to take on Gallatin County Sept. 12 and came away with an important 2-1 win against a district opponent.
    Henry County got off to a fast start as Trevor Sanders scored just 40 seconds after the kickoff.
    Gallatin County evened the scored about midway through the first half.
    The game stayed tied until only eight minutes remained. Striker DJ Aneszko got into a one-on-one situation with the Gallatin County goalkeeper and finished off the game with a well-placed shot in the bottom corner of the net to give the Wildcats the victory.

  • Hadden 2nd in Indian Cup

    The Henry County boys golf team placed fourth with a total of 341 in the Indian Çup golf tournament at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia Saturday. Russell County won the event with a score of 322. Taylor County was second with 324 and Central Hardin was third with 339 in the 10-team tournament.
    Freshman Alex Hadden shot 76 and tied for the lowest round in the tournament but lost in a one-hole playoff to take second place. Adam Kehoe of Taylor County hit a long putt on the first playoff hole to take the individual title.

  • Lady Cats host tourney

    The Henry County Lady Cats volleyball team was unable to keep its recent run of good performances going against Owen County Thursday night. The visiting Lady Rebels won their second district match against the Lady Cats 3-0.
    Henry County opened well against the Lady Rebels and jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set but the Lady Rebels came back with six straight points to lead 9-7.
    Owen County built their lead to seven points at 16-9 and continued to dominate the rest of the first set as they went on to win 25-16.

  • Warriors fall to Panthers in...

    The Eminence Warriors’ game with Carroll County started Friday night in Carrollton looking like it might be a grind it out defensive affair but quickly turned into a scoring fest late in the first quarter.
    Special teams breakdowns cost the Warriors two touchdowns and proved to be the difference in the 48-38 loss.

  • Lady Cats win two district...

    The Henry County Lady Cats continued their strong run of matches last week with wins over district rivals, Carroll County and Gallatin County. Henry County moved to 3-1 in district seeding games with the victories.
    The Lady Cats defeated Carroll County at home Sept. 6, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20.
    The Lady Cats got off to a strong start in the first set but Carroll County came storming back to make it close.

  • Wildcats fall to Bearcats


    The Henry County Wildcats football team traveled to Walton-Verona Friday night to take on the Bearcats and got off to a slow start that doomed them to a three-touchdown loss.

    “We turned the ball over early and they took advantage of that,” HCHS Coach Jason Spencer said. “They got a safety on a strip-sack on our first possession and then we had to kickoff from the 20 and they had good field position that led to their first touchdown.”
