The smaller Panthers played a zone defense that packed the paint and forced Henry County to move the ball patiently to find openings. The Cats got good 3-point shooting in the first period from Mason Heightchew and Jacob Watson to help loosen the Panthers’ defense.

The Gallatin County Wildcats got a big boost from an unlikely source in the final minutes of a closely contested 31st District semifinal game to beat the host Eminence Warriors 62-54.

The Wildcats’ Mason Wilson contributed two points to the offense through the first three quarters of the game but poured in 13 points in the final period to help Gallatin County pull away from the Warriors in the last two minutes to get the win.

The Henry County Lady Cats got off to slow start but used good defense and the inside scoring of Megan Payton to pull away from Eminence for a 49-14 win in the 31st District tournament.

The Lady Cats managed just seven points in the first period as the Warriors packed their zone defense around the 6’1” Payton to try and stop her potent inside game. But the Lady Cats’ defense smothered the Warriors’ offense as Eminence managed just three points from point guard Emilie Ethington.
