Food stamp calculations are messed up

Explain to me, how a 69-year-old veteran single dad raising a 16-year-old son, who worked and paid taxes for 30-plus years and who is physically not able to work, only has an income of less than $1,600 a month, only qualifies for $15 a month in food stamps.

My question is how poor do you have to be?

I see a lot of healthy people who are able to work get hundreds of dollars in food stamps. Our government is really messed up. Things need to change. There are other older people who even get less. Sad.
