The way we were

HAM radio isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life

By D Wayne Martin

Springtime is my favorite time of the year and being a youngin’ living on a Henry County farm, I can remember mom and dad being ever watchful of the skies during this time of year. No early warning systems back then on the farm that I can remember, just mom and dad seeing a “bad cloud” system and rushing around gathering their kids so we could “get in the cellar!” We would wait the storm out and once they had moved from our area, we would exit the cellar and begin any area cleanup if necessary.
