The Henry County swim team competed in their first meet, the Autumn Classic Invitational, Nov. 17 at the Family Activity Center in Shelbyville.

Bo Kasten led the way with two podium finishes according to Coach Tom Coons.

Kasten placed second in the 500-meter freestyle and fourth in the 100-meter butterfly.

“It was a great start to his season,” Coons said.

William Clements scored points as well with a top 10 finish in the 100-meter butterfly.

“Both of his times were not his best,” Coons said. “But it was his first high school meet. I am sure he will learn what it takes to be more competitive.”

The boys’ team finished ninth in a field of 11 teams with North Oldham winning. The girls’ team finished 11th in their first event.

“This young team did a good job at their debut,” Coons said. “We have a new team that makes me proud at every practice. Five of the eight swimmers have never swum competitively before. They got on the block and competed after about four weeks of practice. We now have personal best times. We can now get to work on going faster at each meet.”

The Eminence Warriors also had two swimmers at the meet.

Rachel Lynn, a seventh-grader placed sixth in the 200-meter freestyle and 19th in the 100-freestyle out of 34 competitors.

Sofia Luchini placed fifth in the 100-meter butterfly out o 34 swimmers and fifth out of 34 swimmers in the 100-meter backstroke.

“Rachel improved her time by 13 seconds in the 200 freestyle and four seconds in the 100,” EHS Coach Chad Lynn said. “This was their first high school swim meet,” They have both been swimming with Lakeside swim club for a number of years.”

The Wildcat and Warrior swimmers are slated to take to the pool again at the Family Activity Center today at 6 p.m.
