  • Henry County lowers school tax rate, raises revenue

    Lowering taxes is nearly unheard of for school districts.

    But Henry County Public Schools (HPCS) board voted Aug. 22 to lower school tax rates for its 2019-20 school year.

    In a unanimous vote, board members approved a 4-percent tax with exonerations, reducing the rate per $100 from 74.3 previously to 73.9.

    The Theatre Downstream (TTD) brings lots of people together, old and young. Most people might think of TTD as adult actors or directors, but kids contribute to TTD in lots of ways.

    Often, children are on-stage acting. For example, in “Annie” and “The Wizard of Oz,” children were the main characters.

    Children are usually handing out playbills and showing guests to their seats. At the last performance of “He Needed Killin’,” a kid my age showed me and my family to our seats.

    William Logan Marsh, fifth grade student at Campbellsburg Elementary last school year, was a national runner-up in the 2019 National Rural Education Association (NREA) Foundation Essay Contest in the Grades 3-5 Division.  Marsh wrote an essay about this school as a project for his then fifth grade teacher Jessica Bizianes, winning a $100 prize.

    Eminence Independent School District change

    Eminence Independent School District announced an amendment to its policy for serving meals to students under the National School lunch/National School breakfast program for the 2019-2020 school year. All students will be served breakfast and lunch at no charge at the following sites:

    -Eminence Independent Elementary

    -Eminence Independent Middle/High

  • EIS students place sixth at national technology conference

    Eminence Middle School (EMS) Technology Student Association Chapter attended the National TSA Conference on June 28 through July 2 near Washington, D.C. Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national organization that focuses on engineering practices. It is a compliment to our technology courses offered at the middle school. Eminence’s chapter participated in six events representing the state of Kentucky as state winners.

  • HCPS superintendent receives highest rating from board

    The Henry County Public Schools (HCPS) Superintendent jumped up a notch this year to the highest rating in the eyes of the board of education.

    In his second year on the job, Superintendent Terry Price received an overall “Exemplary” rating for the 2018-2019 school year after a vote by the board at the June 17 board of education meeting, jumping one level from the 2017-2018 year.

     The Superintendent Evaluation resulted in Price obtaining the following scores:
