  • New Castle Elementary names new principal

    Henry County Public Schools (HCPS) is pleased to announce that Phillip Guthrie has accepted the position of principal at New Castle Elementary School (NCES) for the 2018-19 school year.
    Guthrie, who has served as the assistant principal at Henry County Middle School (HCMS) for the past three years, began his teaching career in Henry County. He first completed his student teaching at HCMS, then taught freshmen algebra at Henry County High School (HCHS) for eight years.

  • Lady Cats lose to Carroll in district semis


    The Henry County Lady Cats came into their semifinal matchup with Carroll County looking to extend their streak of reaching the regional tournament to six years but it was not to be as the Lady Panthers’ pitcher Andrea Searcy put on a dominating performance.

    Henry County pitcher Grace Adams was equally dominant in the early going, as the eighth-grader struck out the side to open the game.

  • Lady Rebels end EHS Warriors' season, 6-2


    The Eminence Warriors took on the top-seeded Owen County Lady Rebels in the semifinals of the 31st District tournament May 21 and lost 6-2 after leading through three innings.

    The Warriors scored a run in the top of the second inning when Emilie Ethington reached on a bloop single. Ethington stole second base before attempting a steal of third. The throw to third base by the Lady Rebels’ catcher got away from the third baseman and Ethington scampered home to make it 1-0.

  • Tavi West signs with Dominican University


    EHS senior Tavi West signed a letter of intent May 21 in the Eminence Independent Schools’ EdHub to play basketball for Dominican University in River Forrest, Illinois.

    West, who recently completed her senior year for the Eminence Warriors’ girls basketball program, said she had been thinking about playing at the next level for a while now.

  • Sports Briefs

     HCHS Lady Cats Alumni Game

    The Henry County Lady Cats alumni softball game will be held June 15th at the HCHS softball field at 7 p.m.

    A $10 donation is requested to play in the game. Proceeds will benefit former HCHS player Savannah Mertz who is fighting lupus at this time.

    Sulphur Christian Church meets each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
    Drennon Christian Church meets most Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Check our Facebook page for the current schedule.
    Life Church will have Sunday service at 1 p.m. at La Grange Presbyterian Church, 1931 Prestwick Drive in La Grange.

    Civic Organizations
    Eminence Rotary Club meets at noon at Henry Christian Church every Monday.
    The New Castle Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month at Buddy’s Place in New Castle.
